I have a Comcast HD box on my main living room TV. I only have digital boxes on my other TVs, including the kitchen where I paint. When I/we have football games on, I notice something odd. When the game is on the NFL network, like tonight, the TV signal on the non-HD box runs 5 seconds ahead of the HD TV. When the game is on CBS, FOX or ESPN, the HD TV runs 5 seconds ahead of the non-HD TVs. The opposite. What gives here? |

Satellite retransmission times. Sunspots. Plot by the Masters of Thule. The gold standard. Methodism (and as a Methodist, I oughta know). Pick any one or a combination of the above reasons. |

Blame the HMGS-East BOD! They get blamed for everything else. |

Is your "lagging" box a DVR? That's one answer. We also seem to have the same thing happening with our DirecTV boxes. Both are DVRs but one is HD and there seems to be a 2-second lag which is annoying if both are loud enough to hear. Wyatt |

The government can monitor what you see better on HD so they have a 5 second responce time to exclude somthing. You didn't really think HD was "better" did you?

So John, you tired of people mot reading the post properly yet? Guys, the question wasn't "Why is my HDTV signal delayed relative to the normal one", it's "why is it delayed on some channels, but ahead on others". |

Both of my digital boxes run slower than the cable feed directly to the TV. One is HD the other not, so I suspect it is a box issue |

Live sporting events are live so it's not possible for some channels to be delayed and others not. Get your vision and hearing checked! |

UltraOrk is wrong. Digital broadcasts are behind analogue ones, due to the process of digitisation. link If all your TVs are Digi, I suspect it is because the HD signal takes even longer (because it is bigger). We have a analogue in the kitchen, and digibox in the lounge, and if you are quick you can get between the two and answer the question you just heard the answer to! Also if making a cup of tea that over runs the adverts the lag allows you to get back to your seat at the same point. If you stand in the right place during some broadcasts, and the lag isn't too bad (it really does vary with time and channel) you can get a stereo effect. I believe digital signals can also take a longer route- with satillite signals they have to go up then down again. I also get the same effect with analogue radio commentaries for games I am watching on the analogue TV with the sound down- Alan Green said "That's a bad foul!" and I went "Is it? Oh it is now"! |
