UCLA just . . . and I mean just squeeked by Concordia 62-61. Concordia lead by as many as 7 with UCLA finally going on top to stay with just 16 seconds left in the game! This was an exhibition game. Concordia is an NAIA school in Irvine, CA. Who will be humbled next? mjc |

We should'nt read too much into exhibition games, though. MSU was humbled by Grand Valley State three years ago, and they still made the Sweet Sixteen. Obviously, the little guy has a lot more incentive to win than the big guy, and it sometimes show. |

It's like fighting a girl; can't win. You beat her up, you beat up a girl. You get beaten up, you were beaten up by a girl. Loose-loose. Wonder why teams sign up for these. |

"Wonder why teams sign up for these" For the big school, it's a cupcake game. There is very little chance of losing and it gives the coach a chance to see how things are going before he takes on some 'real' competition. For the little guy, they get a nice pay day to show up and get clobbered. Problem is: Sometimes they forget to tell the players about this stuff. But seriously, in a slow down game like this one, if UCLA is cold early on, and the Concordia guards are talented enough to control the pace of the game, UCLA will have trouble getting back into the game. mjc |
