My wife and daughter like watching "The Amazing Race" on TV and I can tolerate listening to it as opposed to the whiny/overly dramatic other "reality" shows out there. So, I didn't have iTunes up nearly as high as I usually do when the teams got to Groningen. The teams had to do some fairly bizarre stuff, such as counting the bells in the Martinitoren while someone was ringing them and having a choice between swimming a canal and whacking balls in a field or dressing in "traditional clothing" and learning a dance. I've got to ask Gungnir though, did this even make the local news? There was a very nice summary about the city as the show closed. Here's the details on the stop: link and I believe that you can actually watch the episode here to see if Gungnir is lurking in the background link This does raise an interesting possibility that a TMPer competing on this show could get one heck of an advantage by contacting fellow members in the next destination. I think they prohibit cell phones, but not laptops. Wyatt |

Never heard of it, but then I don't live in Groningen City, but in Veendam, some 30km away, in Groningen province, and I notice the route went the other way. Gungnir Jr lives in Groningen, but I doubt this is his thing. Can't see the clip, not available for my geographical location. |

When I lived just over the German border I used to watch Dutch TV. There was a show that translated as Land, Sea & Air, it featured lots of strange contests including riding a unicycle along a plank over a canal. It got really good when they put a see-saw in the middle. One of my favourites was a car race, all the drivers were in Dafs. The belt transmission meant they could go backwards as fast as they could go forwards so the entire race was done in reverse. Just to stop it being taken too seriously the winner's car got crushed. |

I used to live in Uden. Still have friends there. |

I know Uden, had a customer there when I wrote for an antiques magazine, and had neighbors who came from there. Nicetown. |
