Two years ago the University of Washington (U-Dub) basketball team, (this is a very large Pac 10 University), announced they were no longer going to play Gonzaga (a smallish private university). This game had been a much awaited inter-state rivalry for years. Perhaps the fact that U-Dub could only manage two wins in the previous 9 meetings had something to do with it. Perhaps the fact that Gonzaga turned in U-Dub for recruiting violations had something to do with it. Perhaps it was because Gonzaga was recruiting better in the region that U-Dub. Who knows. Now the yellow dogs (U-Dub mascot is a Husky – school colors are purple and yellow -- they might as well discard the purple it is truly out of character for them to wear anything other than yellow) have proposed the Gonzaga series be renewed -- a three year series with a single game to be played each year on a 'neutral court'. Never mind this so called neutral court is the Key Arena which is a long walk from the U-Dub campus. I do hope the athletic department at Gonzaga tells them where they can put this 'offer'. What a pathetic 'major' program. mjc |

That's like UF, ND wanting a Home only series with UM. |

This is getting good! Nothing like a good feud with some bad blood thrown in for good measure! Gonzaga coach Mark Few's response: "The chances of that happening are about the same as Big Foot having my baby," Few said. "That's like me saying, Gonzaga proposes a five-year deal at Spokane Arena. There, I just made a proposal. That's as logical as this deal [would be]." "The series should start in Spokane because Washington canceled the series," Few said. "If they want to do a home-and-home, that's fine. If they don't, let's all move on. We have some incredible home-and-home deals right now with Wake [Forest], Michigan State and Xavier. We're doing a deal with Oklahoma. We have plenty of games, so it's not that important for us to play Washington." |
