Jenson Button new Formula 1 World Champion taking over from Lewis Hamilton.

Excellent race in Brasil too.

I'm really chuffed for Button. Unlike certain other drivers, he's had to suffer with some lousy cars over the years. He's a worthy world champion, and I'm glad he won it with that charge in Brazil, rather than hoping for other results to go his way.

To pre-empt the moaners "he only won the first 6, then did nothing" I would point out if the results had been the other way round (ie all his wins at the end of the season) everyone would be going 'wow what a recovery'. Pity he is a tax exile.

Really chuffed for the bloke, fantastic race, too. Feel sorry for Barrichello, always the bridesmaid! surely his last chance of a title is over now.

Button was the most consistant, over the season, and has paid his dues over the years, and is a worthy world champion, and he drove like a man possessed, I was pacing up and down screaming NOOOOOOOO! at some of those do-or-die Banzai overtakes!

NOW, next season, 4 world champions, all in good cars?, how great is THAT going to be!

What is less well known, though, is that the car is, in the words of my source, "a botch job".

It was designed for a Honda engine, and it was not until December that the team knew they would be using a Mercedes. That necessitated some pretty crude changes.

"The chassis had the back six inches cut off to fit the engine in – the sort of thing you wouldn't normally do even with a test car," says my source. "And the gearbox was in the wrong place because the crank-centre height is different. There's a massive amount of compromise in the cars."

So, the end of a GREAT season, bit of a dull race to end on, though, all that money can't buy you a great race, the whole thing had an 'end of term' feel about it. only 135 days til the new season!!!!!
