The first BCS rankings come out tomorrow.

It looks like the pre season rankings have all but decided the top teams. (would Florida or Texas be in the top five if they didn't start 1-2 in said?)

Tough call on who should be one.

I'll put Penn State in at Number 10, and like I do every year, cheer for everyone else (particularly Iowa) to get two losses.

Like Uncle Lou said last night, no one deserves to be #1. No one with no losses played well enough this weekend to be ranked #1.

2bit elroy18 Oct 2009 1:01 p.m. PST

Interesting that 'Bama jumped Florida for #1 in the AP.

And Florida had a nice amount of help from the striped shirts yesterday.

cfuzwuz18 Oct 2009 1:08 p.m. PST

I can't put Penn St in the top 20! Any team that plays 9 home games and lost at home in their only real test has lost all my respect. Here's is my BCS top 10 off the top of my head.
1 Bama – great defense.
2 Fla – who else deserves it? Beat LSU at LSU.
3 Texas- would have lost to OU if Bradford had played or OU d-backs had the eye-hand cordination of a 12 year old! McCoy massively over-rated and they have played no one but OU.
4 USC- above 3 will not beat them if they make it to Pasadena.
5 Miami- Could probably play with anybody but also lose to anyone in top 15. Getting a lot of credit for playing conference games early.
6 Boise St- would not be undefeated if they played in conference where they had to play each week .
7 Iowa- Would rank higher but almost lost to N Iowa and ARK ST.
8 LSU- can give anyone good game. I like Les.
9 TCU- after Texas and OU are they getting best players in Texas? A+M isn't!
10 Utah – are they still playing this year/ Know nothing about them. Did they lose last night?
10 OU -Though I think they are gut-less (they are twice as good at home as on the road) and DB's cannot make interceptions that would have won Miami and Texas games there is a good chance they would be undefeated if Bradford had not got hurt.

My Top Ten
1 – Bama; they are by very far the best looking team this season, and they faced some real opposition.
2 – Florida. I don't like them,I think their schedule is a shame, I don't think they play like a NC either, but they keep winning and deserve that rank until they lose.
3 – Texas. I don't like them, but they win, and they're loaded with talent.
4 – Boise State; it's unfortunate their schedule is loaded with cupcakes, but they always find a way to win, and they proved they can play with the big boys.
5 – Cincinnati; they might be in the Big East, but this is a solid team who keeps winning, and Kelly is an amazing coach! AND they can win when their first QB is injured.
6 – Iowa ; Amazing Defense. That can get you far.
7 – TCU ; Not afraid of scheduling tough, great defense, undefeated.
8 – USC Trojans – Usually, I would agree with cfuzwuz but not this year. This is an average squad (ahem, by USC standard) who lost to a bad Washinton team, barely beat an average Ohio State team (that Purdue just exposed) and Notre-Dame team. Not impressed this year.
9 – Miami (FL); I give them props for their schedule and they beat some very good team.
10 – LSU ; They played hard vs Florida and find a way to win even if it's not always pretty.

I'm amazed cfuzwuz put OU in the Top 10. They play for .500! Are you a fan by any chance? evil grin
Every game they played vs top 25 they lost (which kind of proves they are probably not even Top 25 at the moment). Who cares if they might have won with Bradford, injuries are part of the game, if losing one player makes you a poor team, you weren't that good to start with! Plus, Bradford does seem injury prone, so no excuse there (and I'm guessing he's out for the season now). USC's been riddled with injuries, yet I don't see them use that as an excuse. I do give OU a lot of respect for their schedule, though.

I have to agree about PSU though; when your schedule is that easy, there's no room for mistake. Top 20, yes, but not Top 10.

I never claim to be objective. Neither is the BCS.

ArchiducCharles18 Oct 2009 3:04 p.m. PST

Good argument there John! Kinda explains in one phrase the stupidity of the BCS!

Waco Joe18 Oct 2009 3:27 p.m. PST

I think Texas Tech isn't getting any love from the B(c)S poll. Their only two loses are to Texas and Houston.

Smokey Roan18 Oct 2009 5:24 p.m. PST

Good posts, people. As well reasoned as anything I've seen from the "experts" on TV.

Yes, the stripes gave the Gators just enough to pull out a win over an unranked team at home.

Given a preference of so far undefeated teams, I would like to force a Boise State/Cincinnati game down the throats of the BCS for a title game.

2bit elroy18 Oct 2009 7:45 p.m. PST

Smokey, there was one call on the final drive that was, well, fiction. The TV commentators were even beside themselves. Not that they can say anything. They are strongly muzzled when it comes to the referees.

And don't get me started on the simultaneous catch in the Michigan-Indiana game. OMG!!!!!

2bit elroy18 Oct 2009 7:50 p.m. PST

Oh, and my alma mater (the Buckeyes) shat a brick. Good god, TP is getting worse every week. I don't pretend to know what's going on inside, But good lord what a pitiful offensive performance. If we'd played USC this week instead of week 2 we would have lost 49 – 9 instead of 18 – 15.

I had predicted we'd go 10 – 2. Now we'd be doing well to finish 8 – 4. Ugh!

cfuzwuz18 Oct 2009 9:49 p.m. PST

Arch- yes I am a OU fan but have lost faith in their heart a little bit over the last few years. If they lose 1 more road game this year besides to T Tech I will really be upset. OU at number 10 was a sarcastic/homer pick but few teams lose AA- Heisman QBs without taking massive hits.Sure, injuries are part of the game but OU has lost 3 games by 5 points and 2 of those teams are in the top 10 and BYU has 1 loss.Does anyone really think OU is a poor team? Let us get Bradford back and meet us in Norman! :}
Sorry to Cincy fans. Move them to 10 in Utah's spot!

Smokey Roan19 Oct 2009 4:15 a.m. PST

cfuzwuz, they should have beaten Texas. Bad luck. :(

TP has indeed gotten worse.

I don't think LSU could beat anyone in the top 25.

I don't think Cinci will win out.

Boise? When a third to 4th place Pac 10 team is the only opponent above .500, you should be elimintaed from BCS cosideration.

Personal logo enfant perdus Supporting Member of TMP19 Oct 2009 6:44 a.m. PST

Smokey, there was one call on the final drive that was, well, fiction.

Arguably two. The pass interference call was BS. The UC call was criminal. If I were a suspicious man, I'd say the SEC is determined to keep Florida at the top.

carne6819 Oct 2009 7:03 a.m. PST

Right now, Boise is Oregon's only loss. If the Ducks win out, including beating USC on 10/31, they will probably pass an unbeaten Boise but shouldn't.

If USC wins out, they will pass Boise because by beating Oregon, they devalue Boise's only marquis win.

Boise will face a tough fight from Idaho, you heard me right, the Idaho Vandals.

I don't think that Florida makes it to the SEC CCG game undefeated. Ditto for Texas in the Big XII.

Alabama does not have enough consistency at QB to convince me they can win it all. I'm pretty sure they make it to the big game, just not sure they win it.

highlandcatfrog19 Oct 2009 12:23 p.m. PST

I've said it before and I'll say it again: BCS delenda est.

Smokey Roan20 Oct 2009 3:48 a.m. PST

I'm worried about Clumpson. I get the feeling that they will come out with the game od their lives Saturday (or hurt Jacory)

:(

That said, I hope GT runs the table, as we are now in the drivers seat for the ACC, and still in the NC hunt (kinda)

Go Canes!

And nice post, CatFrog! :)

Well, how 'bout that…
