This is for a firm that I applied for last year and they never replied to me. It's an IT position that pays decently and is direct hire with a benny package
wow
benefits AND pay! Who'da thunk it in this economy? Unfortunately the down size is that it's an office full of "suits", and I will probably have to wear a necktie
Hmm
that alone should make me demand more pay

An IT position with a neck tie? I now do customer visits in a polo shirt, sometimes a proper shirt, but the last time I wore a tie was to a friends funeral, not worn one to work for several years now. I turn up to the office in t-shirt, jeans & trainers. Something about "I could not do all this wonderful work for you if my thought process was affected by cutting off the blood to my brain with that ridiculous, outmoded item of clothing" |

Best wishes Murph. Besides my time in the Army (& those were with clip on ties), I've only worn a tie a few times. The last time was a recent job interview & follow-up interview for the same job (got the job, thankfully). Both times I wore the same shirt & tie – and both times I left my collar unbuttoned at the top. Combination of a short neck & too tight undershirt – just pulled the tie close & it did the trick. Growing up in Hawaii, dressing up was putting on a T-shirt and slippers (aka sandals or flip flops) – I'm a pretty shabby dresser otherwise. |

small price to pay for gainful employment, isn't it? |

Yeah. Money or no neck tie? I think that's an easy choice. Good luck with the interview. Let us know how it goes! John |

Besdies, how many occasions do you get to wear the Regimental colors? |

If the worst thing about the job is wearing a tie, it's a good job. |

Great, glad to hear it. Have you had any recent updates to your current work situation? I don't remember seeing any since the new company had your group start covering for replacements. |

Ditto acarhj and KcKinstry. I wore a tie, though not required, when I taught just to remind the students and myself that this was serious. |

never take a job where you have to wash your hands BEFORE going to the bathroom. |

Go for it! Wear a suit, wear a tie, play the game. Hate the ********. Good luck. |

Good luck Murph, no tie in this job. I expect I'd wear one if I was going off site to speak to the customer. Most days it's the corporate polo shirt, dark blue combats and safety boots just in case I go on the shop floor. |
