Just saw it, damn that was good. It met one of my main sci-fi criteria – if you grant the initial premise, everything else works. I hate when they write themselves into a corner and then introduce another miracle. District 9 was solid, all the way through. Great action, plot, effects. I can see a modern skirmish scenario between the mercs and the Nigerian gang. Good sci-fi and skirmish scenarios. Like a broken drum, it can't be beat. |

I liked it but Mrs Cybernetics had to walk out when the cat food was being eaten. =( she missed the better part of the movie. |

I enjoyed it quite a bit. My expectations were low going in but I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw it. Dave |

Yep, I was surprised and enjoyed it all the way through. Agreed, it was a very tight story. I especially liked that the lead character who was to help the aliens in the end, well, I found him very unsympathetic. I had to struggle to like him. I'll be getting the DVD when it comes out. |

"I hate when they write themselves into a corner and then introduce another miracle." you mean like when the only way to get the stuff that powers their star ship is from their gear and the alien shuttle leaves the star ship and all the gear they need to manufacture the fuel? |

I liked it but Mrs Cybernetics had to walk out when the cat food was being eaten. I thought that was a scene in the Red Cliff movie? |

"you mean like when the only way to get the stuff that powers their star ship is from their gear and the alien shuttle leaves the star ship and all the gear they need to manufacture the fuel?" I think maybe you missed a key theme of the film then
We never knew for sure why the aliens were stranded on the ship, although it was mentioned that the leadership had died. How the shuttle leaves or why? Not sure I remember (it has been 2 months since seeing it). There was also the idea that the aliens would begin to replace the leadership through some sort of selection process, or collective unconscious. Hence the "engineer" guy (our co-star), working to regain control of the mothership
(over the course of many years mind you
). So, not a miracle after all. Quite the opposite. THE key plot arc, and pretty watertight. |

It took the guy 20 years to find what he had He had a choice, keep on sifting to find more, or leave and get help/reinforcements He chose the latter |
