ARE THE TAG LINES ON MOVIE POSTERS TELLING US THE TRUTH??

Nope they aren't in fact some of the time they just tell us a right out whopper! Which ones do you remember?

I will give you an example:

Battle Beyond The Stars

'A Battle Beyond Space, Beyond Time..'

Much as the film is a guilty pleasure with me I have take issue with this film's poster statement – Much of Battle Beyond The Stars actually takes place in Space, and not beyond it, it also doesn't have any elements of Time Travel or Pan Dimensional techno Bleeped text so persumably it takes place at some 'Time' and not really beyond the means of Time, there for I declare this film poster a total Porky!

I know loads more, but I'm sure you do to:

Alien – Yes, it's true that in Space No One Can Hear You Scream, but most of the film took place within a ship that had a sound-carrying atmosphere…

:)

Oops – forgot "The Neverending Story". Pretty much says it all.

Zulu Dawn. It was billed more as a horror show than a historical. I still recall the tag line

"Who will survive the terror of the Zulu's?"

Picture of king Kong straddling the trade center towers holding a crumpled jet

Farstar09 Oct 2009 4:50 p.m. PST

"a crumpled jet"

A neat trick, that. Even if you (being Kong) could grab one out of the air, the act of doing so would probably be painful. Jet engines that stop suddenly tend to disintegrate explosively, with sharp bits exiting at high speeds. Never mind the rest of the aircraft…

King Arthur

"The untold TRUE story…"

Say again?! True story?! Who the hell were they trying to kid?!

That really ticked me off at the time and… hell, it still does.

It is worse than just claiming it to be the true story… If it is the Untold true story, just how did they find out about it to make the movie?

Greyalexis10 Oct 2009 6:29 a.m. PST

senstive are we? evil grin

Pretty much anything made for the Sci-Fi channel qualifies. There was one with a bunch of wraiths attacking some colonists -- "based on actual events."

Any film that uses the tagline "untold" or "secret" story, is BS, everytime.

Gilligan's Island, "…hear a tale…of a big boat trip…aboard this tiny ship…" Which is it, a big boat or a tiny ship? That always annoyed me….

Tommy2010 Oct 2009 12:08 p.m. PST

Um, Doug…

The line was "the tale of a fateful trip".

Stronty Girl Fezian11 Oct 2009 7:53 a.m. PST

Reign of Fire. The poster had this cool battle between dragons and helicopter gunships over the Houses of Parliament. Was that in the movie? Was it Bleeped texty!

Daffy Doug11 Oct 2009 9:06 a.m. PST

HeeHee!

nazrat11 Oct 2009 5:09 p.m. PST

Looks like you've been singing it wrong all these years, Doug!

From Lyrics.com…

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The minnow would be lost, the minnow would be lost.

…and thats how we became the Brady Bunch.

Oh, hold on…

JackWhite16 Oct 2009 11:29 a.m. PST

In one of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti Westerns, the poster showed a couple of guys kicked back in director's chairs, wearing white dress shirts, dark slacks and sunglasses.

THEY NEVER APPEARED IN THE MOVIE!

wHAT A CROCK!

There are tons of them, but can't call any others to mind at the moment.

". . . was busy with three boys of his own." and his sons

The Two Towers, the towers in question being
Minas Tirith, Minas Morgul, Orthanc.

Azantihighlightning17 Oct 2009 8:11 a.m. PST

Minas Tirith is a city, as is Minas Morgul.

Star Wars and Star Trek.

I never saw any stars fighting in star wars, and all the stars in star trek never moved, so it wasn't much of a trek.
