Fear not, this is a different story: based on Philip K. Dick's 1953 short story fantasy "King of the Elves", the film is about a band of elves and one dwarf living in the modern-day Mississippi Delta who name a local human their king after he helps save them from an evil troll. Much more what we'd expect from the Mouse. |

It is a good short story. I fear they will leave out the general undertone of doubt, insanity and murder that makes it good. |

I fear they will leave out the general undertone of doubt, insanity and murder that makes it good. Since 98% of the country has never head of Dick let alone has read the story, I doubt Disney could care less. Then again, Disney is trying to get a bit more edgy with themes, trying to appeal to the battle-hardened tweenagers we unfortunately have today. Who knows. |

I see this statement was from 2008. They recently fired Cook from all of his duties after the PotC 4 : On Stranger Tides / Depp annoucement (which Disney wanted to keep quiet a little while longer..)

PKD has had enough movies adapted from his stories to be slightly more familiar to movie goers than, say, Brian Aldiss (who has also had a movie adaption, but only one* AFAIK). With Bladerunner, A Scanner Darkly, Total Recall, Paycheck, Screamers, and Minority Report familiar to many movie fans, and four more movies under development (gotta wonder what they'll turn "Radio Free Albemuth" into
), the name isn't completely unknown. *Aldiss' story "Supertoy Lasts All Summer" is the basis for A.I. |
