Man. If Morena asked me to submit, I would gladly accept her as my overlord!

PS. I love that line . . .
"The world is in such bad shape, who wouldn't welcome a savior right now?"

I wonder if they will follow the same story line from the old show.

Klebert L Hall06 Oct 2009 5:34 a.m. PST

Maybe.

Continued rumors of it's immediate demise persist.

I will NOT be watching it.
I despise all that self-loathing scifi crap from the 50s where the aliens must save us from ourselves. I hate Klaatu and all his ilk. This looks no different.
Fie! and a pox on them and all their house!

Cacique Caribe06 Oct 2009 6:54 a.m. PST

John,

At the risk of giving away the real storyline . . . Oh heck. The aliens are here to eat us, not save us.

Two songs come to mind:

We'll Make Great Pets – Porno for Pyros

Humans from Earth – T-Bone Burnett

John,

Remember this?

V is a modern re-telling of that tale. However, V takes the story further, into the resistance.

Oh man, here come the paranoid critics with their short memory crap again . . .

What's with these crazy people? Must they always find hidden connections where there are none?

C'mon, this is not a new 2009 concept or language. The original show was done in 1983. And the Twilight Zone episode before that was done back in 1962.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, right?

I say just enjoy the damn cigar without reading so much into it.

V is no more a criticism of Obama than BattleStar was of GW Bush. That's just silly.

"What's with these crazy people? Must they always find hidden connections where there are none?"

This has to be the inadvertently funny thing that anyone has written on TMP in years. The irony is incredible! 8D=

Cacique Caribe06 Oct 2009 6:33 p.m. PST

I'm confused.

Which is the ironic part, Naz . . .

. . . that I also find hidden connections where there are none?

. . . or that, in this case, you think the connections they try to make are not so apparent?

. . . or is it that I'm calling someone else crazy when, in fact, I am probably the crazy one?

No comment! Any explanation I make would be DHable… 8)=

No problem. I know just what you mean. For quite some time I've felt like I've had to walk a thin line too.

I think it looks excellent and cannot wait to see it.

CC,

I'm with you on Morena. Being eventually eaten alive seems a small price to pay.

Cacique Caribe08 Oct 2009 1:25 a.m. PST

The series was started in 1983, in the middle of an entirely different political environment.

And yet, the show's premise was exactly the same . . . aliens coming to earth to eat us:

Here's the first episode:

And the series description:

Basically the same show, just newer and crisper, with better special effects. Plus it has Morena Baccarin now. How can you go wrong with that!

Yep. Morena, do with me what you will:

Not required in the '80s.

Not required now.

Morena Baccarin needs a better agent.

MahanMan08 Oct 2009 10:22 p.m. PST

Yeah, no Marc Singer, no Michael Ironside, no Robert Englund.

Pass.

Azantihighlightning09 Oct 2009 5:37 p.m. PST

Actually members of the original cast will be popping up in the series.

The problem with the original was the whole thing was rushed and ending put together too quickly with that dreadful cop out in the Final Battle. Hopefully this one will take longer to get there and produce a better finish that is worth waiting for.

I'm going to watch this even though it's based on a failed '80's sci-fi series. ABC is hyping this show hard, but I just heard that they only intend to air the first 4 episodes (it'll be a 'mini-series' just like how it started in the '80s), then put it on hiatus before airing the remaining episodes. This tells me that if it bombs the show may just disappear.

Sci-fi isn't really popular right now. JJ Abrams's excellent 'Fringe' has lost 35% in viewership from last season. And Joss Whedon's fledgling 'Dollhouse,' despite its high-concept storyline, is on life support. I'm just not going to be too optimistic about V's chances, that's all.

Azantihighlightning17 Oct 2009 7:45 a.m. PST

The mini series was certainly not a failure, it's sucess enabled the dreadful later series commissioned (Which died into the second season)

When broadcast in the UK, the mini series was put against the OLYMPICS on ITV and it made National News headlines because it figures were higher than that of the olympics opening and maintained that until the end of the mini series.

To avoid confusion, the intial Mini series was two episodes, which as a result of it's sucess had the networks up the budget to complete the story with a further three episodes. These were called 'The Final Battle.' Though all five are collectively referred too as the Mini series, as they are one continuing story.

The networks insisted on the story being completed in hurry despite upping the budget to do so, so much of the final battle was rushed into production. Episode 4 which centers around the raid on the pump station didn't have time to complete it's FX work so stock footage from the collapses of the dam in the movie EARTHQUAKE was used instead.

As a result of this episode 5 really suffers with storyline conclusions forced to an unatural ending and there are errors all over the place.

Hopefully the networks will realise that it has a natural shelflife and can't run for season after season and will bring its storyline in accordingly.

But then no one ever accused the networks of being intelligent.
