That is a terrible element of the BCS system.

There are SIX teams in the top ten who have not beaten a ranked opponent! A few play one or two ranked teams all year.

That's like asking the sun not to shine. Eliminating them from the BCS, however, is possible and necessary.

Use the OFM playoff system. Rankings and conferences are irrelevant. It all depends on win-loss record, with seeding within to be determined by strength of schedule.

Here is is:
There will be an 8 team playoff at the end of the season.
Teams are seeded first by win-loss record. They are ranked within this record by the combined wins of their opponents. Only Division 1-A (or what used to be called 1-A) teams are counted as legitimate opponents.
Top 8 teams qualify, and playoffs start on New Years Day. I don't particularly care where they play, the major Bowl games are good enough. Playoffs continue, with the Championship game to be played the week before the Super Bowl.

If your conference has a playoff, all the better. This will add to the opponents' win tie-breaker. If not, then too bad for you if you lose out. Also, too bad if you stop playing 2 weeks before everyone else and are stale.

Like I said, 8 teams qualify. If you come in #9, too bad for you. You should have won more games. Go play in the Holiday Bowl, and be happy.

With my system, your record and opponents' records are the only things that count. Go ahead and have your polls and rankings, but they won't matter.
No more "SEC is the best conference, and our losses are Quality Losses." No more of that boosterism nonsenses.

My plan is so brilliant and foolproof that it has no chance of being implemented.

There IS one flaw to my plan. It does not give Notre Dame an automatic berth, but I am sure that that can be arranged.

I have this same rant every year, about this time. Ranking teams by how good their players look on paper, plus how well you THINK they'll play, is madness. Start high enough and all you have to do is not screw-up much to stay ranked. Start unranked and you have to hope someone else has a melt down so you can crack the Top 25.

Observe, undefeated Auburn and USF just entered the rankings. Oklahoma at 2-2 is still there. Undefeated Wisconsin is still out in the cold.

BCS delenda est.

Too many teams benefit from continual high pre season rankings mixed with zero OOC competition.

Florida and Texas are gonna have to lose twice, or they will be in the NC game. (neither has played a ranked team, or even a bad OOC BCS opponent. That is the key to winning titles nowadays. :(

OU did lose to two ranked teams on the road, but yes, they have zero wins over BCS opponents. If they stared the season ranked 15th instead of 3rd, they would be out of the top 25 and would not get back unless they beat Texas.

OU at #19 is a freaking joke!

After what FSU did to BYU, that loss doesn't look nowhere near as good as it did then. OU doesn't deserve that ranking. For some reason, OU escapes the critism leveled at Ohio State, and both are pretty similar programs; can't win the big one.
