Oh no way, enfant, they never look ahead past VT. The UM game is VT's Super Bowl game every year, and they play their best against us.
Watched the replay 3 times, and the score was not indicative of the game (don't have two turnovers returned for TDs in the first half, and we are driving to take the lead in the third quarter). If VT played like they had all season, we would have looked great. The reality of a young team on the road at one ofthe toughest places toplay in the country.
VT could have beaten anyone in the country that day.
Jacory couldn't throw on water, receivers couldn't catch, Oline made some crucial mistakes (damn Phipho, again!), and we have zero depth at key positions (and our starters happened to be injured at those positions)
I was harsh on Randy, but in his defense, when a program goes FOUR years without recruiting ONE QB, ONE O Lineman, ONE receiver, or ONE cornerback (Coker from 2003-2006), you basically need two to three years to even fill the 1st string at those positions, not to mention having a reliable 2nd string.
We have TWO d-1 caliber cornerbacks, both true sophomores, who have both missed two games so far and will miss the OU game.
We have ONE strong safety, a sophomore, and he has missed two games so far. And one free safety, a junior who wouldn't make most BCS team's roster.
That is why every game we have played, FSU, GT, VT have thrown simple passes downfield and the result was wide open TDs, with no UM defender withing 10 yards of teh reciever.
For D line, we have two DEs, both injured for Florida State, one for VT, and thats it.
Great talent, but you can't have that many true freshman and true sophomores at key positions, with zero backups.
Our linebackers are average D-1 at best (they have performed great this year) and our O line is a bunch of guys who wouldn't see the field on most of our opponents teams.
What we have is 7-8 NFL recievers, 5 NFL RBs, NFL safeties, CBs, and DLinemen, who are young.
Now, OU could light us up for 5-7 TDs just based on the fact we won't even have bodies at CB and safety on many plays.
But, our Dline and LBs could as easily dominate OU's poor O line, and our offense is just as capable of lighting up OU.
It's a game between young speedy playmakers vs an experienced, deep national championship level powerhouse, and we are gonna be right in the thick of it, in a crazy home crowd at night!
One more recruiting season where we lock down Dade County talent, and 2010 and on are gonna be typical Cane teams
Oh, and the ACC is in play if we get a three way tie (if VT drops one to GT or UNC, we got a chance)
