I did the shopping for next week today, and on the list were some lovely whole young chickens for $.59 USD a pound. The first one's about to come out of the oven for super tonight. I'm ready. Few things are as simply comforting as a good roast chicken.

Also picked up a couple of flats of beautiful round steaks. The missus will probably trim one flat, then grind the trimmed fat with the other one for some nice coarse-ground burgers. It's been a while since a really good burger.

There were some really good-looking mangoes, avocados, and eggplant at the store today, too. We've been having some fantastic peaches and nectarines the last two weeks, but those are nearly gone. It's been a good summer for produce here.

So I'm sitting with a nice glass of Syrah, waiting for the broccoli to steam, and then supper will be all ready. It almost makes me forget the Red Sox are getting hammered by the Yankees.

I had two tube steaks at the movie theater and a diet coke. Now I'm sitting down with the Riesling, but my stomach still aches for real food.

BTW – You can skip Informant! It was mildly OK and not much better than those 1983 TV specials it was trying to pastiche.

They had Nathan's franks on sale today, too. I picked up a couple of packages: two for the (exorbitant) price of one. Loaded with sodium (450mg per), but they're still my favorite frank.

Nobody around here carries a decent Riesling. I'm going to have to make a pilgrimage "down below" one of these days, as cool weather approaches. There's a wine shop behind the LA Farmer's Market that had a good selection last time we were there.

Well, since we're "putting it all on the table", so to speak, all I had was lunchmeat on flour tortillas (since I ran out of bread), dressed with olive oil mayonnaise and cheese, with a juicy tomato, Claussen pickle, and Chili Cheese Fritos on the side. It may not sound so appetizing, but I can assure y'all that I enjoyed it very much.

I'm full. grin

Well today I got 64 oz V8 Juice for $1.50 USD each at Walmart and picked up 6 of them. About a month worth of juice.
Got to get my veggies somehow. I roast a chicken usually once a week but not at .59 alb. That is a good deal. Yum…
