Wow. So much sharper than the greens, and the Colonel says they're more comfortable, too, since they're not the wool/synthetic blend. I think the white shirt really looks much smarter than that institutional green they had for so many years. The cotton has to be more comfy, but it's going to be a woolly booger to make hold the creases. Less sure of that stripe down the leg
Navy got (or will be getting) a new look, too, right? What about the Air Force and the Marines? |

I always loved my Blues, even got married in them. I have not tried the new ones. |

The Marines

there might be some blood involved if you tried that

So DA finally put it out. It was supposed, IIRC, to be released in '06, but the BD probably kicked-in

As far as the stripe down the leg, I'd prefer a branch color stripe. At least for us ground pounders. But we already get CIBs and blue discs for our branch insignia. I can live with the gold stripe. Even though that's the color of the cavalry (yuck). |

Anyone have a link to pic of the new uniform? My google-fu appears to be not up to the task today
My favorite uniform was the old Class B Khaki uniform they got rid of in the 70's
gah that makes me feel old now Thanks, Dave |

The Air Force is deliberating on how our new Service Dress will look, but I believe it's been narrowed down to 2-3 choices. |

Here you go, Dave: army.mil/asu Not good. Dress Blues were fine, but this looks like some kind of Air Force SP outfit. But then I didn't like giving non-tankers black berets, either. Khakis were sharp. Wore mine home from jump school with Corcorans, and actually felt good about having done it. For a few minutes. Then sense returned. Allen |

I think the beret should be dumped for all but SF, Rangers and Airborne units. Rangers keep the tan beret, the black to be relegated to the dustbin. We keep our Patrol Caps for daily wear while in ACUs. For the ASU, NCOs and Officers wear a peaked cap and the lower enlisted wear a side cap/pilotka/ "c" cap. But that's just me. I think the ASU looks better than the green bus driver uniform we've been saddled with. |

I say "Fie!" on (snooty French accent) berets for American soldiers! We're sons o' Uncle Sam, by tunket! Hardee hats and frock coats! Now! In regulation blue! |
DontFearDareaper | 23 Sep 2009 7:15 a.m. PST |
I still think the beret should be limited to SF and Rangers like it was back in the 60-70's. Thanks for the link Allen. Hmmmm not liking the Class B. Why has the military been so hell bent on making non-fatigue uniforms look as un-military as possible for the last 20 years or so ???? And what were they thinking with that wide yellow stripe on the pants??? It makes everyone look like they are in a penal battalion

"I still think the beret should be limited to SF and Rangers like it was back in the 60-70's." The history behind the tanker's (and cavalryman's ) black beret--from the '60s and '70s: link Practical, too: you roll your beret and stick it under the shoulder strap of your tanker's jacket when you put on your CVC. Note that the "locally authorized" black tanker's beret is contemporary with the "locally authorized" black Ranger beret. The black Ranger beret did not become official per HQDA policy until 1975. Like all Marines, we laugh at the army's cute little berets. |
DontFearDareaper | 23 Sep 2009 11:45 a.m. PST |
Our unit did not wear the beret as you point out that was a locally authorized piece of uniform back then. The troops at Fort Hood wore them but a lot of them apparently weren't taught how to properly wear one. I vividly remember going to Hood and seeing a bunch of tankers wearing berets that were poofed out like some bizarre chef's hat. The cannon cockers there looked positively silly in red berets especially the troops that didn't know how to wear one. As an aside, troops nowadays must get some training on how to wear a beret. I haven't seen anyone wearing the beret in a silly manner since the army made it the standard headgear a few years back. Dave |

Khaki's weren't class "A's" but were hands down, the best uniform I wore in the Army. These look like an Air Force uni mjc |
Shagnasty | 23 Sep 2009 1:34 p.m. PST |
Not very impressive. Most of the berets I've seen being worn at Ft. Hood look at least a size too small with a weird upthrust in front. I liked the Baseball caps better, except for special units as noted. |

So what is the wear-out date for the greeny guys? |

Speaking of Khakis, I found my Dad's old Khaki "class B" uniform the other day while looking to see if Grampa saved his WWII era marine uniform
There were a lot of things I miss from the '60's army. Like a few divisions
