… telling me I'd made the wrong choice for team leader"

Departmental manager, overheard today.

(We all knew A would be best for the job- P is of the David Brent school of management, but interviews well)

David Brent…?

I dunno who that is, but I'm familiar with guys who suck at their job but who can interview well…

Ok, excuse me for asking the reallly dumb question here but if A was considered "best" for the job then why not just hire A for it? I know HR rules, Legal issues, etc. but for the love of Mighty Zarquon people why not once and a while actually pick the right candidate for the job? Is it really that hard? Will the world stop turning if you do that?

Will the world stop turning if you do that?
