My daughter received a bankruptcy notice in the mail last week. This letter was sent out to all creditors of someone named Kathleen Contino.

My daughter is 14.

After checking to make sure that she wasn't running a loan shark business out of the house (without giving me my cut), our next thought was that someone might've stolen her identity.

As it turns out, Ms. Contino and two others, were supposedly putting out a "Who's Who" book but managed to run out of money after collecting $3m. There must've been a class action lawsuit that they lost because my daughter was listed as a creditor along with every other kid who's parent sent in a check (no clue how much, but my wife usually knows better).

I'm very doubtful that there's any money that can be recovered. But, since the case is in Orlando, I wonder if I should secure the services of Mr. Smokey Roan, esq. to recover the debt by the means of slapping the debtor with a week-dead fish.

It's probably not a class action. In bankruptcy proceedings, the debtor has to list all outstanding debts. Since your daughter and other schoolkids paid for the listing and didn't get it, they're on the books as creditors, and the bankruptcy court makes the debtor send a notice to all creditors--even 14-year-olds.
