I had never noticed until my son pointed this out.
Is this as big a cliche as the Wilhelm Scream?

More modern.

At least they've grown out of--mostly--the outrunning the explosion.

Re: Wilhelm Scream

At what point does an inside joke become a cliche?

Wild stuff there.

It seems like you would at least watch because, 'Hey, fire!' The only one that looked natural at all was Will Smith since the threat was in front of him.

For real men, it's nuclear or nothing, short of a megaton explotion it's not worth watching

I'd call it a tradition. I always like to hear it.

Stupid guys look at explosions….

I've always thought it really stupid when people don't look at explosions – they are cool and everyone wants to see it. Just try laying a C4 charge and lighting the fuse cord – you'll want to see the Ka-Boom, I guarantee it, no matter how many times you've done it. The only way you don't look at the artistry you've wrought is if your fuse cord is too short for you to get very far, in which case you hunker down….

As for the Wilhelm Scream – am I really right in thinking that those screams on OFM's you tube link are really all the same library sound? It sure sounds like it, wow.

[Edit] Well, I'll be… link

Amazing. Something with Wil Ferrell in it that he didn't completely ruin.

Can you name a famous movie in which someone doesn't die?

With a notable exception or three, they don't kill people in movies, just stuntmen.

Hi

I ALWAYS LOOK.

never claimed to be "cool".

My son has just realised why he keeps hearing the 'falling off very high things' scream from Lego Starwars videogames in loads of movies.

Interstingly looking at those clips was the distance between the cool guy and the Ka-boom. The British police work on 400yds minimum safe distance for terrorist car bombs

BTW why would they use such a library sound? wouldn't it be just as easy to have an actor scream?

You have to pay the actor!
