The Tolkien estate and other entities have reached agreement on monies owed them by New Line Cinemas/Warner Brothers which means that "The Hobbit" is cleared for filming. Jackson will be producing while Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth) will direct.

I'm intrigued by del Toro's direction. He's got an amazing style. I just hope it meshes with the Hobbit.

Short cuts make for long delays. :-)

Woohoo!

I'm excited about it! As NYC says, Del Toro is an amazing director with an amazing and interesting style… I think as long as the WETA people and Peter Jackson are involved (which it sounds like they are), the visuals at least will remain faithful to the original movies.

Despite their flaws, I loved Peter Jackson's LoTR trilogy of films.

I am very optimistic about these films. del Toro is a very interesting choice for director.

I loved this line:

"We deeply value the contributions of the Tolkien novels to the success of our films…."

Wonder how much he though about that.
