Inquiring minds want to know? He's going to pop a vessel one of these days. Maybe he is still upset that Miss Precious Perfect wasn't accepted into the NYC coop. |
| mad monkey 1 | 04 Sep 2009 12:07 p.m. PST |
He's Angry? They make medicine to fix that. |
| GypsyComet | 04 Sep 2009 12:17 p.m. PST |
It used to be clearly satirical anger. A professional skill, if you will. I suspect he's lost the satirical detachment that made him so successful in the first place. |

I think it's called being angry all the way to the bank. He's a showman, same as most of the pundits. |

He doesn't count as Broadcast Entertainment?
As long as we aren't talking politics etc I would think he'd be safe. Yes? No? Donald~ curious- |
| Space Monkey | 04 Sep 2009 1:59 p.m. PST |
I agree with a lot of his sentiments and still find him to be an enormous gasbag
so yeah
it's a celebrity/entertainment issue
not politics. Aren't most all those opinion guys just big blowhards in love with their own voices? It's getting harder and harder to find news
basic journalism
just the facts
this punditry/opinion must bring higher ratings than actual information. |
| Pictors Studio | 04 Sep 2009 1:59 p.m. PST |
Since he discusses politics, he is a political figure, of sorts. It seems that the discussion could remain focused on his level of animosity but it seems likely that it could easily divert elsewhere and result in DHings. Since the purpose of the ban on politics is to prevent people from getting angry at each other about non-gaming issues, this request from the editor seems to be in the spirit of the rules. |
| Space Monkey | 04 Sep 2009 2:03 p.m. PST |
Yeah, it's hard to discuss angry pundits without mentioning what they're angry about
and whether the anger is justified/real/performance. Back to fighting over the color of Napoleon's socks! |
| GoodBye | 04 Sep 2009 2:06 p.m. PST |
But I don't see anything in the earlier posts to suggest that it was specifically going down the road of political current events. I see a few brushes with his opinions but nothing specific. There are also many nods to him being an overly opinionated sports announcer. Perhaps a; "I'll allow this but counsel please recognize that I'm watching you!" would have been more appropriate? D~ ? |
| GoodBye | 04 Sep 2009 2:07 p.m. PST |
Back to fighting over the color of Napoleon's socks! I have it on good authority that he didn't wear any, I could post my source but then it'd have to kill all of us! DRD~ |
| kyoteblue | 04 Sep 2009 3:00 p.m. PST |
I always heard that Napoleon wore Argyle Socks

It's all about ratings and the money they can charge advertisers. If their corporate overlords told them to do a 180, they would whistle that tune. |
aecurtis | 04 Sep 2009 3:46 p.m. PST |
Good thing those old-timey newsmen like Edward R. Murrow never took a stand on anything. Allen |
| kyoteblue | 04 Sep 2009 3:52 p.m. PST |
So what color socks did Napoleon wear Allen ???? |
| Space Monkey | 04 Sep 2009 3:55 p.m. PST |
Did Edward R. Murrow have an emotional rant for every night of the week? Did he refer to every person he opposed with childish nick-names and half-truths
and make it all seem black and white/good vs. evil in a simpleminded dualistic kind of way? |
aecurtis | 04 Sep 2009 4:30 p.m. PST |
Nothing wrong with seeing things in black and white. It's not simple-minded, just clarified. It helps so that the real purveyors of half-truths don't get to confuse things to the point that the good do not act: that is their goal, after all. Mocking evil is a good way to combat it. As we see nowadays, people lock up with fear when evil presents its distortions and lies. If the real pompous gasbags are shown as such, it makes them less frightening, so that people can deal with them appropriately, often by simply ignoring them. Half-truths? Well, an easy way for evil to combat truth is to deny it. Those who seek to spread light will always be attacked as liars; it's the way the wicked work. Me, I'd like to see a newsperson take a more direct approach to revealing and confronting evil in the world: "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee." Give Jules a nightly show, dammit. Get some stuff fixed around here, by gum. |

"So what color socks did Napoleon wear Allen ????" It's in an Osprey. Allen |
| GoodBye | 04 Sep 2009 4:59 p.m. PST |
It's in an Osprey. They published it right after the three part volume on Toilet Seat Doilies of the Third Reich. D~ |
Doctor X | 04 Sep 2009 5:08 p.m. PST |
He should have stuck to being a sidekick at ESPN. On his own he is a ing idiot. |
| Space Monkey | 04 Sep 2009 5:23 p.m. PST |
I don't think he's an idiot
he knows what he's up to and he's very good at it
it's just not particularly useful except for getting folks riled up. This goes for the other blowhard guys too. Me, I'd like to see a newsperson take a more direct approach to revealing and confronting evil in the world
I think maybe you'd like this Clark Kent guy I've been hearing about
I just want my newspeople to give me some basic facts
with as little spin as possible
no witty banter with the other talking heads
no emotional swellings in their voices
no vulturous circling of the dead and dying
no opinion until maybe the end of the show (so I can turn it off and not miss any news). I also want nothing regarding sports or celebrities because there are plenty of other shows devoted to that. Not that journalism has anything to do with what Olbermann or the others are up to. |

it's SATIRE
OY! And Amen to that Mandt2! |

He has no reason to be angry. At least 10 people still watch MSNBC. |
| Klebert L Hall | 05 Sep 2009 6:40 a.m. PST |
He's one of those TV screaming heads, right? In that case, angry is his job. There's a good chance he's also an imbecile, the vast majority of those people are. -Kle. |

There is still much evil to be uprooted, and its vile effects overturned. |
| Cafe Vienna | 05 Sep 2009 10:24 p.m. PST |
There is even more evil commencing, and its vile effects need to be stopped cold. |
| Klebert L Hall | 06 Sep 2009 6:42 a.m. PST |
There is still much evil to be uprooted, and its vile effects overturned. The problem is deciding what's evil, since it's pretty subjective. Evil can be entirely constitutional, after all. -Kle. |
| jpattern2 | 06 Sep 2009 8:22 a.m. PST |
I'd love it if one of these guys began ranting and raving one evening about the coming of Cthulhu. :) |
aecurtis | 06 Sep 2009 9:29 a.m. PST |
Nah, the "evil commencing" is just the same old evil rearing its ugly head. It suffered a setback, so it has to try again. |

So, does anyone watch much Sportscenter since him and Dan Patrick left? |
Der Alte Fritz | 06 Sep 2009 3:39 p.m. PST |
I like listening to Dan Patrick on the radio at night while I'm painting. They replay his Danation show on The Score at night. |

and agree with Klebert's reply. Olbermann seems relatively calm compared to a lot of the radio guys I hear
Michael Savage sounds like he could stroke out any second. |
