I have always had a problem with one of my Propane tanks for my BBQ. It would quit dispensing when half full. Well no worries, I bought another and this worked fine for several years. Now it's doing the same thing the other has been doing. Couldn't get gas out of either so I had them both filled yesterday and they took 1.5 gallons between the two of them (5 gallon tanks). These are the newer tanks with the floats in them. (They won't fill the old style anymore -- which worked fine BTW). Is there anything you can do about this? How do you fix it? mjc |

I never heard of this problem. My goes til they are dead empty. They give up the ghost when all 5 gallons are gone. Maybe a problem with the hose? Not enough pressure coming from the tank? I have had the problem of "vapor lock" on the gas regulator before. I just replaced it, and worked fine after that.

Check your hoses? I get spiders in mine from time to time. Real BBQ is done over wood

"Real BBQ is done over wood" Jana, you are, of course right! However, time does not permit me to do 'real BBQ' most of the time. I use the BBQ 12 months a year to cook meat. Gets rid of the fat/grease which my MD tells me is a 'healthy' way to prepare food (that and I don't have to clean the oven) -- never mind those carcinogens (which probably only come from wood -- I mean propane is just carbon and hydrogen -- how could that cause cancer?). ;-) mjc |

There are other qualities to "real BBQ," but no religious talk in mixed company. :) |

Same thing has happened to me
a LOT
The problem is caused by the pressure valve "locking" or freezing. It has something to do with pressure of the tank v air
Anyway, the solution is this: 1. Shut off the tank valve. 2. Turn all the burners to FULL open. 3. SLOWLY (and I mean SLOWLY), open the tank valve. It should take you a good minute (60 counted seconds), to open the valve. 4. Start the grill. This has happened to me about five times this season. Saved me from returning 2 half-full tanks. Reply back when you try this. I am curious of the result. |
