With the economy, my business has been way down. Coupled with my wife's four-month stretch of being jobless at the beginning of the year, our finances are struggling to stay level.

So, she sends me some job recs from her company.

There's an open position in Antarctica.

I could do the job in my sleep – and I'll actually apply for it. I'm sure there's got to be a gamer or two down there, and, if not, I'd actually have time/incentive to paint my minis. And, the lack of a local game shop would help finances…

Either that, or she's just trying to be rid of me.

Careful – don't disturb that which slumbers beneath the ice… grin

If a metor should land within walking distance and leave a phalic shapped crater then leave it alone. Shutter the windows and bar the doors. And shoot any scientist who has a hankering to figure out what it is.

Last group who failed to take that advice…

EDIT: how do you get a link to say 'LINK' and sort of hide what it's a link to?

Wyatt the Odd Fezian02 Sep 2009 12:07 p.m. PST

You could just hide it with tinyurl

Antarctica, how……….Odd.

The Tin Dictator02 Sep 2009 1:14 p.m. PST

If my wife was trying to send me to Antarctica I might get suspicious. Soo… is the wife willing to re-locate with you?

If not, oh well. I'm sure you'll be swamped with beautiful scientist girls who think they are homely and are very lonely for ANY man. And I hear the beaches there are really nice in the fall. But then again, I could be mis-informed.

kyoteblue02 Sep 2009 1:55 p.m. PST

While your there be sure to look for Star Gates and The Templers Lost Treasure !!!!!

kyoteblue02 Sep 2009 2:17 p.m. PST

Roderick Robertson Fezian02 Sep 2009 2:22 p.m. PST

As far as gamers down there, I was in a LARP once with a fellow that had just come back from a stint there, so you may be in luck.

Beowulf Fezian02 Sep 2009 2:28 p.m. PST

That does not sound like a bad idea… And you migh find Alxbates there!

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP02 Sep 2009 2:55 p.m. PST

Nah, Alxbates is at the other end but I see that Kate Beckinsale is down there in a new movie. Yummmh!

Antartica can't be that bad.

My wife was all for me taking a job in Iraq next year (28 on/28 off). The excuse for being so encouraging is to pay for the daughter's college.

Still double pay for 6 months work is kinda enticing.

Wyatt the Odd Fezian02 Sep 2009 4:42 p.m. PST

Drat! The Antarctica job got pulled.

My wife was encouraging me to take advantage of the Army's cut-off age of 42 (I've got a month left) and I have a friend who is about 6 years older who just went in last year – they needed vets to care for the service dogs at the base in Kandahar.

Those VA benefits do look enticing.

Scott Base used to do a patch "A woman's place is in Antarctica" I don't think it was mysogeny- I think they were just lonely.
