Ok, we have to have a rule
Can't have two guys known as 'the Great' with the same first name. We need to get all the Freds, Petes and Lous together and have 'em battle it out. Which, in your oppinion, actually deserve the title 'the Great' and which shall, from this point on, be relegated to simply Czar, Emporer, or Archduke? |

Sorry Ultra Ork. Those are "The Great" and not "the Great". A technicality I know, but without order our world is chaos. |

Alfred Matilda (well, according to Cecilia Holland, anyway) Honk Wasn't Ivan "the terribly great"?

Do you include Popes in the list? In which case John Paul II has been referred to by Benedict and other Catholics as John Paul the Great on multiple occasions. Also see Popes Leo (I) the Great, Gregory (I) the Great, and Nicholas (I) the Great. |

The ones I find interesting AREN'T listed as 'Great'. OK, the following is partially because I'm a Brit, but I'm sure other nations could say the same: Who presided out the building of the biggest Empire the world has known? Victoria the Great – whoops, she didn't make it
.who fought off the world's main superpower of the day and laid the foundations for the country with the greatest Naval tradition ever: Elizabeth the Great
nope, she didn't make it either. Alfred did, and his story was a lot less impressive. |

Rhodri Mawr of Gwynedd was allegedly killed by Alfed the Great in 878. Any other battles have a 'the Great' on both sides? He got his epithet from killing seven shades out of the Vikings. |
| DJCoaltrain | 13 Sep 2009 11:14 p.m. PST |
The ony Great that counts is The Great Chuck Norris. |
