Chanel, a wire-haired dachshund, died on Friday aged 147 in "dog years", said owners Denice and Karl Shaughnessy, at her home in suburban New York state.

Chanel was walked daily, her owners said, but also had unhealthy habits.
She enjoyed butter sticks and chocolate – usually feared to be toxic to dogs – Mrs Shaughnessy said.

"She once ate an entire bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and, you see, she lived to be 21, so go figure," Mrs Shaughnessy told Associated Press.

Chanel also liked wearing jumpers, as she was sensitive to the cold, the Shaughnessys said.

I always cut myself a pat of butter to suck on while I fry my bacon in it.

john, you're wasting it. The bacob should be fried IN the butter.

I've read about two dogs that both are 29, both from australia, one is raised on kangaroo meat, the other is a vergitarian.

But it's nice to know dachs can live that long, it means I can hope that my dog lives another 10 years

My Oppie lived to 22 years (& 4 months) eating Rasin Bran, Cheeze Whiz & Ice Cream … Many times at the same time. I think it was the anticipation that kept him going.

The dachshund of my childhood lived to about 20. Every Christmas, he would manage to down some Christmas chocolates. Yes, he did puke them up on the carpet, much to my mother's consternation, but he lived a ripe old age and was pretty healthy up to the end. We think it was the constant supply of apple cores that my father would constantly feed the dog.
