Two years ago I bought a 32" HD tv, a HD DVD player and 5.1 suround sound.

3 months later HD DVD though in the towel and Blu-ray won the format war.

I never liked my HD DVD player, it has some weird quricks.

But I had a normal Region free DVD player, that worked ok, I have about 200 region 1 dvd's and 200+ tv show seasons also region 1
So it was paremount that if I bought blu ray player it had to be region free for dvd's if not Blu ray disc.

And a few months ago my dvd player started to cough and not realy work very well, and so I had to buy a new player and it might as well be a blu ray player.
I found one, that I could make region free, it took some downloading and buring of cd's.
But I got the player on saturday and made it region free in a second.

So now I have a blu ray player and HD tv.
So whats next, yes blu ray movies.
They are ludicrisly expencive in norway but you get them for half price or less from play.com.

So far I have 6 BD movies and sevral on the tobuy list, this is not that many, since I have about 700 Movies on DVD and 300 Tv show seasons

But this means I have to fix up my 5.1 system to digital to get the most out of the HD sound.

I'm not going to go over board, my system cost me £500.00 GBP back when I bought it,
But I am going to buy a coaxle cable so I get digital sound
Some movies realy would be perfect for BD, I'm looking forward to watching Heat and black hawk down

Blu-ray movies are ridiculously expensive everywhere.

I prefer a DVD player that upscales.

CBDVD has a larger market share in Japan than Blu-ray so the format war isn;t over yet.

I found that Blu Rays can be somewhat cheaper when purchased at fairs and collector shows. I paid about half of what I normally pay at the "cheap" multimedia stores, but when I listen to what the sellers say, I'm probably financing the Russian maffia.

I buy BDs online and you get quite new dvds for the same price as regular dvd

I bought Black Hawk down, batman begins and the dark knight for £9.99 GBP each, same as regular dvd

I refuse to switch at this point in time.

I haven't found that blu-ray is really any more expensive than dvds were before high definition discs came out. Now that dvds are dirt cheap (the way that vhs tapes were when dvd came out), blu-ray seems expensive.
Only good thing is that dvds can play in blu-ray players.

And yet another sharp maneuver from the moneymen to separate the rubes from their dollars. Prepare for yet ANOTHER format "upgrade" in about 5 to 10 years. Buy your whole library over again, plus new hardware. What a gimmick!

I havn't even got round to buying a DVD player yet.

We use my son's playstation.
