This evening, I caught the last hour's worth of a fascinating film on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) called 'The Man Between', which was released in 1953 and starred James Mason and Claire Bloom. I don't know how I missed this little gem, and upon looking it up, found out that it was directed by Carol Reed, who also directed another favorite film of mine, 'The Third Man'. Both of these movies are set in post-war Europe, specifically, in Berlin and Vienna, respectively. I'm fascinated and drawn to the lives lived amid the starkness of the bombed-out cities and towns that was the former Third Reich and it's satellites. The only other movie that I know that has this same setting is 'Judgement at Nuremberg', and I'm wondering if any other TMP movie aficionados here can point me to other films with similar settings? Thank you. |

The recent "The Good German" is set in post-war Berlin. I haven't seen it though. Wyatt |

Just remembered The Big Lift. It's about the Berlin Airlift and, being filmed on location in 1950, gives you a good idea of how devastated Berlin still was. Also of note, with the exception of Monty Clift and Paul Douglas all the pilots and other miltary personnel characters are really active duty military men playing themselves. |

A very new version of the Big Lift is the 2005 German version: Die Luftbrücke – Nur der Himmel war frei No idea if it's available in English or with subtitles, but if you can get it, do. |

Decision Before Dawn is a spy movie set in Germany in the final days of the war. Filmed on location in the late 40's it shows pretty stark scenes of devestation and life. |

The Good German wasn't that bad, but tried too hard. If it had been made about the same time as "The Third Man" it would have been better movie, but still not up to the standard of the "The 3rd Man". The problem I found was that The Good German was it had been made 55 years too late. |

Hi There were several movies made, whose names don't come immediately to mind, involving Berlin and strife beween the occupying powers, spies and so on. The best is a little late, done in 61 or so called "One, Two, Three". Rocky |
