The other day, as I was riding in the elevator, the little Captivate News Screen thingy had an item that indicated that 80% of the pretzels that are eaten in the United States are made in Pennsylvania.

How about that!

Which brand's the best? Also, do y'all "trick them up", or eat 'em right out of the bag?

And what about soft pretzels? What's the general consensus on those?

The only way to eat soft pretzels is at a ball game. They have to be hot, too, with lots of salt. Mustard is the only proper condiment with them. Beer is good too.

I like Utz Dark for the hard pretzels.

My son likes to mix mustard and ketchup and dip his pretzels, but it always makes me shudder. Kids today.

Pretzels are the ideal miniatures gaming snack, because ideally they have no sauce or schmutz all over them. Some have honey mustard or cheddar cheez schmutz on them, though. Again, great with beer.

I like those big pretzels – the ones you eat with mustard. Ah…yes, good with beer, of course. Pretty much a meal.

I buy the UTZ sticks by the barrel from Sam's club. They are great. Years ag, while vacationing in Amish country we hit a pretzel factory. It might have been Tom's, and loaded up on cheese pretzels. God, they were fabulous.

Hmm. I usually reserve mixing mustard and ketchup on a hot, fresh cheeseburger. But, like you said, John, kids these days. grin

Say, while we're on the subject, what do y'all think about these:

I'm betting what the answer just might be. grin

Never tried them.
However Combos are pretzels filled with cheese.

Oh, ketchup and mustard are great on burgers and hot dogs, but pretzels? grin

Snyder's of Hanover are very tasty pretzels too.

One of my fondest memories of kidhood is eating a warm
soft pretzel loaded down with mustard on a cold day
at the Philadelphia zoo…

Love the soft warm pretzel w/mustard to this day !

I used to work with a girl who moved to Philadelphia from California. Apparently the assumption where she lived in CA was that everyone in PA put Philly cream cheese on their Philly soft pretzels and couldn't understand why that wasn't the case when she got here. I tried it once, didn't taste that bad, but I much prefer the spicy mustard. I wonder who figured out that warm, salty dough actually tasted good?

I hate salt on pretzels,so that cuts about 90 percent of them out for me. I do like the plain soft pretzels at Auntie Annes though, with mustard.

Mmmm…Snyder's of Hannover.

Are they really in Hannover?

Oktoberfests are also a good time for those soft pretzels.
