I am going to be working in the city for a week in September and wonder what is to be done in London (let's say London Transport zone 1 for the sake of argument) after working hours on a weekday. The British museum has the decency to be open until 8 on Thursday and Friday; I am a middle aged geek so "night life" means TV in the hotel room. So what touristy things do not roll up the sidewalks at 5 in September? How about a decent used bookstore with something like late hours? |

Well, there's a fair bit of culture in London – theatres, music venues (classic, rock, hip-hop, C&W). Vast number of cinemas, the BFI for obscure stuff. Pick up Time Out (or peruse the web site : timeout.com/london ) and wonder how you'll fit everything in. Main shops like Foyles open late ('til about 10PM). |

I think the Tate is open late one night as well. It's more recent art, but sometimes they have special exhibits that are interesting. |

The Tate, if I remember correctly, is also free, which is very decent of them. |

The London Eye keeps going till fairly late. A 'flight' takes half an hour and is well worth a go. |

Lentulus, If you are stuck for something to do on the Thursday evening, why not come along to the Exiles for a game the-exiles.ning.com Not only would you get a game, but we would also buy you a drink or two. Dependent on which Thursday you would be around, we would be playing on 3 Sep ACW or Indian Mutiny (don't know which one yet), 10 Sep Normandy, 17 Sep Spanish Civil War and 24 Sep Carthage v Syracuse. ezza123, 24 September is when I will be in town. I will investigate the getting there and PM you. Always nice to meet people outside of the work world. |

Most styles of food can be found in London. Here is a link to guide. london-eating.co.uk I have not used this guide but it seems to give a selection. |

These guys are my favourites. link Be aware that there is an adult store downstairs, but if that is not your thing, you need only stay on the ground floor. They have a nice selection of military history at very good prices. I think they are open to at least 7, can't promise, but since they are within spitting distance of Foyles that you will be visiting anyway, check them out. |
