A Good-Looking Army in a Reasonable Amount of Time

Painting a wargaming army is a completely different beast from painting a single miniature for display.

Has anyone done anything "Green" lately? It seems to be the thing to do these days.

I put the recycling bin out this morning…

I tried putting a wind turbine on the back pasture on my farm. The county zoning board said I can't as the noise would both the neighbors. What neighbors??? They are still trying to figure out if I am allowed to put solar panels up.

I am using natural felid predation to deal with my excess rodent population – my cats catch and kill mice and chipmunks
I am still trying to figure out if partially using wood as a heat source is green or not. It is the best renewable resource, but it produces Co2. I put in a call to Al Gore but got nowhere.

In reality last year we put a decent amount of money into insulation – because I am cheap
I happen to be a pale green conservative, we recycle, grow vegetables and try to pay as little as possible for energy. I tried to buy a hybrid crossover suv last year, but the dealerships were not interested in selling them. The elephant in the green room is nuclear which would solve many many energy problems for the US, but is vetoed by the environmental movement that will not compromise.

Not intentionally trendy but some.

I exchanged the dead lightbulb in my office for one of those newfangled one, the city gave us a few for free.

I tried to put a bunch of glass vases (clear glass, not colored) in the recycling bin this week, but they weren't taken. I'd hate to throw them out and have them end up in a landfill--any ideas on what to do with them?

" the noise would both the neighbors"

I've heard that argument before. I mean really, how loud can they be? That and they ruin the scenic view. Like another coal plant won't ruin the view? People need to read Who Moved My Cheese.

That and they ruin the scenic view.

I was in Germany last summer and seeing the groups of windmills was really cool. I like seeing them. Makes me feel like I'm in the future.

ADub74, from the pasture I wanted to put the windmill in, there are no neighbors. My close neighbors are on the other side of the hill. The nearest house out back is almost 2 miles away. In fact, the only visible buildings from the proposed site is my house and a feed storage shed on the next farm. Who cares how loud it is, no one is around to hear it!

The sight of the Windmills always lifts my spirits when I fly into Copenhagen.

The flying isn't very green – but the journey length is a bit severe by train.

"The county zoning board said I can't as the noise would both the neighbors."

Where this is an actual concern, the code specifies decibel limits, etc. (and turbines rarely exceed normal regulatory limits). Require them to show you their restrictions.

My wife is a recycling maniac, so I, by default, recycle as well. I mean recycling to the extent of recycling the cement blocks from a wall we tore down.

I drive a 42 year old car.

Reduce, re-use, recycle.

Allen, my county is even more remote than Barstow. I will probably put the windmill up anyway. They will never know it is there unless they fly over and take real good photos.

I ride my bicycle all over the place: I never use the car for short hops unless I have to carry something impossible on a bike (not very often). I don't own or operate any power equipment or toys (I would but I don't have any interest in same). My clothes last me for years. We hardly use any trash-producing stuff: almost all of our weekly trash is recyclable. "Greenest" of all: I am retired, ergo not using up a job that someone more needful can have….

I recycle my beer bottles…
