I got a call at work today which was internal so had to have been looked up on the internal number register;

I/S "Hello <where I work> Jon speaking"
H/S "Hello is that <where I work>?
I/S "Yes, how can I help you?"
H/S "I'm looking for Jon"
I/S "thats me, how can I help "
H/S "I was wondering what number I can contact you on?"
I/S " This one"
H/S " And what is it…"

I mean, Bleeped text, what a numskull? Turns out this guy worked in Intel for crying out loud. No wonder the crooks are winning the fight….I often say that crooks have all the money and no rules, but police have all the rules and no money. I might change that to crooks have all the money and no fools; police have all the fools and no money.

I feel your pain, but there are plenty of dumb crooks. Some might say the dumb ones keep the police in business.

Sadly, I think its a greater being having mercy and sending the dumb ones so we feel we are achieving something. I get paid though, so I shall dutifully plod on…

I'm thinking of ringing him back tomorrow and asking whether he managed to get in touch with me because I can't remember my number now. That should confuse him for a while.

You do realize he probably came through your phone exchange (i.e. he was tranfered to you) and was wanting a direct number to you? I deal with big companies all the time (Intel included) and that is a real standard practice, and I get asked that question all the time. It has nothing to do with him being a fool, but his expectations on how your phone system works.

My wife works for Intel and she can be reached two ways, through the phone switch board exchange, and by a direct number to her.

I'm not talking about the company called Intel, I'm talking about Intel as in "intelligence".

It was an internal number available only to those who look up the number on the police internal directory. He wasn't put through to me, he is a numskull….:)

Hey Eclectic, where does your wife work? I was with Intel for 11 years in Santa Clara.
