The East German Trabant was the GDR's "answer" to the VW Beetle. As the Berlin Wall fell, many of these rickety autos were abandoned as their owners left them at the border on their way to freedom.

Herpa Modelspielwaren is known for making vehicle models for model railroading layouts as well as producing the formerly Roco line of HO-scale "Minitanks." They bought the rights to the Trabant name some time after that company's demise and is now planning on bringing the car back as an eco-friendly vehicle.

Maybe if they offered a nice Schwimmwagen. Or, perhaps an eco-friendly halftrack…

Trabants make good planters to hold flowers.
