Why do people not click links?

14:50 GMT Poster A: 'What are the turnback colours of the 13th Foot and Mouth?'

15:34 GMT Poster B: 'See this link' links to image of 13th F&M showing pink turnbacks, working on the principle that a picture is worth a thousand words, and hopefully forestalling the next question, 'what were the lace colours?'

16:09 GMT Poster C: 'They were pink'

16:45 GMT Poster A: 'Thanks C, what were the lace colours?'

16:50 GMT Poster B: 'duh'

B's helpfulness has apparently been ignored by A and C. It happens all the time. Why?

Is it unawareness of what live links are? Or do? A fear that the link will send you to 'Red Hot Mommas with Whips'?

Or is it good ol' human contrariness? Or have A and B both stiffled (sic) B? grin

I blame Rick Astley.
And Zed.

People with slow service are often exasperated by links. They often hang up their computers to the point of having to hold the powere button down until the darn thing shuts off. But personally, I suspect B has bad computer breath.

B brushes regularly, and uses mouthwash.

Because if A looks at the picture and interprets the color himself he is responsible; if he buys a bottle of pink and it's wrong it is C's fault.

I mean, if I think it's Vallejo 944 and it is really 958 darkened with 2% Blood Red then life is ruined, isn't it?

On the other hand, maybe A has done something unmentionable to B.

Or, like some demented puzzle author, A has decided that the correct answer as a word, and a picture will never do.

Or A is red-blind, and doubts that the turnback color actually is gray.

A scans the thread and sees C direct response.

People are lazy and stupid. Plan accordingly. Don't get surprised or upset by them.

…because links are not to be trusted. They might direct the user to a malicious site that is propagating malware or worse yet a picture of Zardoz.

Never click a link; EVER!

In fact don't use the Internet; it's the only way to be sure that we stop the spread of computer viruses and Zardoz. Remember every link you click connects you with every other PC/Mac that has clicked that very same link---ungh disgusting to think about. Please practice safe computing and close your browser now!

Abstinence is the only real safe solution!

It takes a lot of effort to click on a link. Even more effort to actually look at the new web page.
