I came across this and I thought it was interesting list of movies that influence QT in his latest venture:

link

Two of the list, "Operation Crossbow" & "The Guns of Navarone" star Anthony Quayle. Both concern British agents operating behind enemy lines. In real life Quayle had been sent into Yugoslavia by the British Special Operations Executive to fight with the partisans on sabotage and subversion missions.

Guns of Navarone is such a good movie.
I watched it tons of times in my life and since I was 5. I lived in San Diego and the library a block from my house had it on VHS. My Dad, Brother and I would check it out, watch it a million times, return it, and check it out again when they put it back on the shelf. we did that for a long time.

Where Eagles Dare is awesome too.

However, I have to disagree with that list and say that The Big Red One was one of the lamest movies I have ever seen.

Some of my favorite movies are on that list.

The Big Red One was a disappointment. The book was great, but it was also told from the German point of view. Compared the veteran American Sgt. with the veteran German Sgt.

Some of mine too!

With a cut off of 1980 "Victory" just misses the cut.

Bridge Too Far should replace Big Red One.

Thanks,

John

Some of the movies on that list are rubbish. A couple were OK and only one was actually good.

Is there some reason why the name of the new movie is misspelt so badly?

The Big Red One is an excellent film. I want to see the "restored" version that the article mentions.

he Big Red One was one of the lamest movies I have ever seen.

I agree – even as a teenager, when it came out, I realized it was very badly done.

And I'm in no hurry to see any movie by anyone whose movies are advertized as being must-see solely because it's by that person. Even if the movie has the remotest possibility of being good. Hero worship by Hollywood is pretty pathetic especially when its one of their own. Bleah…

"Is there some reason why the name of the new movie is misspelt so badly?"

Yes. because of Brad Pitt's character's accent…

Nope.
It's because the correct spelling would be censored on many marquees,
but gets a pass with the miss-spelling….

To date, there has been little explanation of the title spelling. In English, the presumed correct spelling would be "Inglorious Bastards," without the extra u in Inglourious and with an a instead of an e in Basterds. When asked, Tarantino would not explain the u and said, "But the 'Basterds'? That's just the way you say it: Basterds." He commented on The Late Show with David Letterman that "Inglourious Basterds" is the "Tarantino way of spelling it." In the film itself, the words are briefly shown in their misspelled form on Aldo's rifle, implying he is barely-literate.

I was thinking that maybe it's Tarantino's way of differentiating it from this one: link

I hated Force 10 From Naverone. Talk about a lame movie.

Kelly's Heroes is one of my faves because of the way it mixes the comedy with a touch of seriousness, then reverts back to comedy.

Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS????????????????

Actually compared to "Inglorious Basterds" – "Isla, She Wolf of the SS" was a documentary……
