My son, your future world overlord (etc.), has finally gotten his class schedule straightened out. There was a conflict that was keeping him from taking Physics. There are now two or three options on the table, so plans are proceeding apace. Remarkably, his head didn't explode when we arrived at the solution. He's got: US Gov/Economics Language Arts Math Computer Science Spanish Twentieth Century Comparative History and then Physics either at the local community college or online. That schedule is for his senior year (4th year of high school) and every class is either AP or IB (meaning college-level curricula). Oy. Wyatt |

No typing course? No study hall? What about PE? |
Wyatt the Odd | 20 Aug 2009 4:32 p.m. PST |
PE is something that students only take two years of – unless they're in sports. Typing? I took typing in Jr. High – it came in handy when we went to computers (of course, the computer in that school was a TRS-80 with a tape cassette drive). Wyatt |

I took PE every year, I figured if I did not I'd just veg. I'm trying to convince my kids to do the same (not much luck) |

College required PE – I took archery even though it was only worth half the credits of the other classes. Wyatt |

I would not pay for PE in college no fracking WAY!!!!!! |

I only took PE my freshman year in high school, when I didn't use (or forge) a pass from the journalism teacher to work on the school paper during my PE period. The remaining three years I was able to officially "opt out" of PE in favor of "academic" classes. (I believe the class which officially replaced PE was my computer class, where I wrote games in BASIC on the TRS-80 Model II). |

No art classes? No painting or sculpting? What about Drama class? Or Auto Mechanics and wood shop? |

What about womens studies? How are you going to score unless you hit up the female dominated courses? VR James Mattes |

I strongly endouraged both boys to take golf in college. That is the one sport that can provide a lifetimes worth of business benefit even though both are bio-chemistry types. (plus the frats all seem to have at least one guy who can get them on a course for free once a week) |

I agree with James; Womens studies are important. I did a year at Uni studying (and I use the term loosely) German; me and 19 females aged 17-22 with a hot looking lecturer; no other blokes. It was like Michael Wittman at Villers Bocage i.e. target rich and no competition. I learnt a lot that year but can't speak a word of German
..don't knock the benefits of a good education. |
