He had lots of names, officially called Ralph, but usually know as Bitten.
He's been ill for several weeks, (kidney failiure) and deteriorated quite quickly.
He was a Norwegan forest cat, a very large, strong animal, but always a total gentleman, never stole, begged or scrached, the most affectionate cat I've ever known. A real comedy cat, always doing silly things and then he'd just look up with his big green eyes, and know you'd smile at him.
Being such a strong character its been heartbreaking to see him weaken, even today, when he was almost incapable of walking he would try to drag himself off…he had a will of iron, and kept his dignity. Tonight I put him into his basket and sat with him until he went to sleep. I checked on him half an hour later and he was not breathing. Strangely, he felt like the big strong cat he always had been in life. Its been a privilige to have had him in my life.
I'll bury him in the morning in the garden where he spent the whole of his very happy life.

Very sad when a furry family member leaves us. I sounded like he went peacefully and that is about all we can ask.

ArchiducCharles18 Aug 2009 4:12 p.m. PST

My sympathies. They leave us way too soon.

Rest in peace Bitten.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but so glad he had the luck to be your cat, he was loved and valued so much. Our cats are Maine Coons, the NF's cousins, so I understand completely what sort of personality he was and how his passing leaves such a hole in your life.

Very sorry for your loss. Our cats are every bit members of our family as the humans and losing one is horribly painful. May Ralph long live on in your heart and memory.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Cats are part of the family, I've felt every loss as deeply as those of my human friends and family.

So very sorry for your loss christot. I'd echo what 138SquadronRAF says.
