Heard about this on the radio today – CBC said Eay will be providing the government with sellers lists and Revenue Canada zombies will be auditing.

I'm not a seller (or a buyer), but that still sucks.

A retailer sells in a store they pay tax so its good to level the costs.EBay is a business so you can also deduct expenses.

Businesses do not pay taxes. They pass the cost on to their customers.

As Ebay has shifted from being a huge 'Bring & Buy' to a retail outlet for commercial sellers this will probably happen in a lot of places. Here in the UK 66%+ of the items in the Wargaming category are Buy It Nows, the vast majority of these are from commercial sellers. It would make sense for the taxman to want to know how much they are taking.

It only applies to power sellers, so it's not that big of a deal for most of us.

Governments just have to put their greedy hands on everything, not surprising…

Well, as my government grabs 51% of part of my overtime pay I'm not that sympathetic to professional retailers trying to dodge it.
It's not that I'm a master of the universe, just that the overtime I'm racking up along with my service pension pushes me into the 40 tax band and they also help themselves to 11% National Insurance contributions. I'm actually paying my own pension.

I had no idea, I thought we were the first at it. No biggie for me – I never use EBay, but I posted because I know a lot of folks here do, and didn't know if people knew about it. grin
