Quite liked the first film, so would be happy to see another. |

Fantastic movie, I want more! Let's get Gryffud some more Hornblower movies too! |
| Gallowglass | 29 Jul 2009 7:55 a.m. PST |
That would be excellent. Really, really excellent. Let's get Gryffud some more Hornblower movies too! I agree, but I doubt that'll happen unfortunately. |

"A script based on Patrick O'Brian's The Reverse of the Medal has been written, and like Far Side of the World, it's a combination of several different stories." Grrrr
"Let's get Gryffud some more Hornblower movies too!" Oh, please. Let's not. Let's keep him busy making Fantastic Four movies--that no one in their right mind will want to see--until he is old and decrepit, if only to *keep* him from ruining any more Hornblower stories. He should have gone down on the Titanic, and stayed down. No half measures, if you're going to wreck Hornblower. Get San Raimi interested in the Hornblower books. Then you can have heroes with two cutlasses in acrobatic fights. Lieutenant Bush with a shotgun strapped to his leg. And Lady Barbara getting jiggy

I sense a slight difference of opinion here
The difference of opinion is very subtle, I agree, but now that you've pointed it out, John, I can't help but wonder if this obviously long-standing animosity over that fine Welsh lad Ioan has previously manifested itself. I cite, for instance, this thread: TMP link and the perfidious pilfering of the much loved "Jebbie". Where, I wonder, was Allen on that pitiable day? And is it perhaps possible that Allen's animosity for young, male Welsh actors led him to lash out in such a despicable manner? To the pillory, Allen! |

Please let this happen. I could watch Master & Commander any time of day or night. I really want a good movie with Maturin the spy having a large part. I'm up to "The Thirteen Gun Salute" in the series. |

It looks like someone got out of the wrong side of the hammock this morning. Still, at least no one's throwing telephones around. ;^) |

I've read too many of these books in a row. My buddies are looking at me funny when I call them "Dear" and "Love" all the time. |

Who do we send the moral equivalent of peanuts to in huge numbers to get this done? another Aubrey/Maturin book would be GREAT. Also more Gryffud Hornblowers. The kid was a dead ringer for the "portrait" in C. Northcote Parkinson's definitive biography of the incomparable Hornblower. |

I will definitely go to see this in the theater. I rarely EVER see movies in the theater. Another vote for the Spy Maturin. |

It was the last movie I saw in a theatre too. |

if only to *keep* him from ruining any more Hornblower stories A tad harsh as Gryffud is probably doing what the director and script tell him to do. I enjoyed them as entertainment. Much like the Sharpe TV series, good fun and hardly Sean Bean's fault the resemblance to the books are passing (allegedly). Steve P |

This is very good news, one of the best movies made so far in the new milenium. The atmosphere, the sound the story ect. all came togeather to make a great great movie. Hope it will have the same director. |

For myself i'd pass on a M&C Sequel since i did'nt think much of Master and Commander. But then i'm biased as i'm a Francophile and would love to see a movie about Napoleon. Just my two cents. Michael |

I second Mr Curtis on this and on Hornblower. Lieutenant Bush with a shotgun strapped to his leg. Or maybe in place of his wooden leg – there's a neat twist. Doug |

Absolutely terrific film first time round. It really captured the feel of the period (as the books do). Looking forward to this new version. If it follows the books it is based on, a lot of it will be land-based this time round, too. |

I'm only now seeing this thread, but I would be failing my duty to the cinema world to not second and third the OFM's comments. More M&C, more Hornblower!! |

It will be hard to beat the classic Gregory Peck Hornblower!! Even if that Griffiths fella is in it! hussarbob1746.webs.com |
