Gosh if I could get a hold of a few cans my wife would love it. That and Bananas were her favorite food her father gave her as a little girl in Korea in the early 60s. VR James Mattes |

Me, too. And the ham and limas. In fact, I never met a C-ration selection I *didn't* like. Allen |

Great link, Allen, and great stories, fellas. Gastronomically speaking, seems like you'd be better off on the battlefield than in a fallout shelter if a nuclear war broke out. Check out the link to see what I mean: link Anyone for a "carbohydrate supplement"? |

You just missed out on this, C.: auction Nobody won it, so maybe you could contact the seller to relist it. I liked the fruit cake. I like *any* fruit cake. I always found the chocolate nut cake too dry. But what made it good was taking an instant coffee packet, a creamer packet, and a sugar packet, muddling them all together with a little water to make a sauce, and pouring it over the chocolate nut cake in the can to moisten it. Even better was if you had cocoa powder, to mix up your cocoa in your canteen cup, and then dump in the chocolate nut cake. It would give you a serious sugar rush either way. Allen |

Hey, my senior year in college I practically lived off those carbohydrate supplements, they're basically graham crackers. Georgetown had a series of tunnels in the medical complex which had been designated as fallout shelters and there were boxes of that stuff everywhere, the crackers were stored in big cans. Quite a few were 'recycled' that year. |

I once had a can of chicken that was dated 1968 back in the 80's. It was still good. But I can't say I ever liked all the selections. Ham and eggs for one

Not 36 years old, but some of the c-rats we had were over 20 years old (mid-60's). I can't say I enjoyed any of them, except maybe the stew, to which our ever-present Tabasco (sent from home) was a welcome addition

I actually liked the ham & eggs. Dean No offense intended
But
Oy. They weren't like Mom used to make
(But then I *liked* "chipped beef" in the mess
so I guess I'm
strange.) Chaz
