I'm wondering if anyone can help me who lives in North Dakota near the North Dakota State University…

I'm trying to get hold of the following book, "From Catherine to Krushchev" which is available from NDSU (as below. It is a gift for my partners Grandmother;

link

The problem is I can only order it by sending my credit card details via post, including the security codes and I am not keen on doing that. Amazon have copies as well but they charge ridiculous prices.

The very big, cheeky and outrageous favour I am after is if anyone is in a position to get me a new paperback copy @$35 and post it to me in Australia. I will reimburse via paypal for the book and postage to me (in advance if wanted), plus paypal fees incurred, (plus carparking, drink and burger on the way there fees if necessary). I know its a big ask but I can't find this book anywhere else.

If anyone can help, please PM me or my email is my TMP name at yahoo dot com dot au

cheers
Jon.

Surely you can fax them your credit card details -- a bit inconvenient but not too bad. I've had to do this in the past for computer purchases.

That would be my last resort; I've been stung before on a fax order, I tend to use p/pal or send cheques nowadays whenever I can,

Why don't you ring them and order the thing over the telephone with your card? I'm sure you can work out the time difference.

Failing that, couldn't your bank in Australia issue a cheque or bank draft in US funds and made out to NDSU?

I just picked up a copy for you and will check postage costs and get back to you.

The book has been arranged as above. Star Ranger and several others contacted me almost immediately offering to help or advise in some way. I must say I am really humbled by all the offers of help from everyone, especially Star Ranger,

My motivation for getting this book is because of my partners grandmother.. She was born in the Ukraine prior to WW2 to German settlers, lost her father to Stalin, saw purges by STalin, was there when the Germans invaded and fled the advancing Russians back to germany. Quite an amazing story, and this book was recommended to her to read,

thanks again everyone.

cheers

korsunO- Have your partner's grandmother check on German- Russians in Oklahoma. There are lots of them in NW Oklahoma where I grew up. Major county has 2 towns (Fairveiw and Meno) that have a lot of people of this ancestry.

And the book is now in the US postal system, on its way to Australia in 6-10 days.

@cfuzwuz – Interesting to know as she is keen to chase up the history….she was born in the ukraine to german settlers in the late 20's. Her father was taken away one night by the Russians prior to the war and never heard from again. She was drafted into the German army as a nurse in Zhitomir in WW2, saw the SD take away jewish neighbours, got bombed etc then fled the Russians with her family to Germany and so it goes on. All the villages got Russian names and hers was apparently razed in revenge by the Red Army. She lost a lot of friends, contacts etc but has always wanted to rediscover things so i will let her know.

StarRanger – thanks again for your help.

cheers
Jon.
