Yes, Tehran in Iran. I have the possibility of going to Iran in Decemeber for a couple of days. I will probably get half a day, or a whole day to go sight seeing. Any suggestions? |

Given the current unrest, you might want to go elsewhere. |

Wear a lot of green
That's right up with staying at people's homes while visiting Burma. |

I understand the Golestan Palace is nice, and that there is a National Museum (history of Iran) and a Contemporary Art Museum that are well regarded. Don't know anything about operating hours or best times to visit, though. |

Thank you everyone. Shagnasty, thank you for your concern. If it was next week I would not go but things can change by December. Jana, I had heard the Contemporay Art Museum. Kyoteblue (and Jakar), maaybe not. Humming "Born in the USA" might not be good either. This could be an idea for a new thread "What not to do in Iran" |

John, I asked a mate who grew up there. She said that the old Shah palace was nice. The bazaar can be interesting and the Museum of Contemporary Art as well. If you can hook up with a guide the mountains outside town are very beautiful. |

Thomas, thank you. The Palace and the Museum sound a good idea. The Bazaar will depend on what the atmosphere on the streets is like. I doubt I will have time to get to the hills. Thank you again |

After several hiccups I am finally off to Tehran. Flying out Friday, back on Wednesday. I am looking forward to it. |

I am back amd I had a great time. All the people I met were warm, friendly and helpful. No hassle at the airport. Visited the bazaar, the bookshops, the carpet museum and the the Saad Abad museum. The latter contained the shut Military Museum but the gardens had a sherman and two LT38s. |
