Just got laid off, literally. Huge surprise. Knew things were up, with merger/purchase/downscale, but I had been assured that I was pretty much safe. Turns out, not so much. Entire product management department wiped out.

Now we get to try to get health coverage for my wife who has MS! Sounds like never, unless I can come up with a new gig in short order.

Bummer, man. I'll have to see if I can order stuff from GHG to help support while you're job-hunting…

Six months from now, hopefully, you'll look back and see that everything worked out for the best.

In the meantime, what I try to do when this happens to me is to give myself a week of "unemployment vacation." It's a stressful time, so try to de-stress. Play some games, paint some minis, do some things with your family.

And then, when it's time to go back to the hunt for a new job, remember: network, network, network! If you're not on Facebook, try it – you'll be surprised how many people are on there that you know. Somebody out there knows about the job you're looking for.

As hard as it is pay for COBRA. I had to for nearly 18 months one time (3 kids and wife has RA).

Remember job hunting is WORK. Set a schedulde to be in the "office" and looking.

Look in other Industries as well. Craigslist, DICE and onthers are at least worth checking frequently.

GOOD LUCK!

Well, maybe this is the time to try to live off the store. Our sales have been great lately and I have been regretting not having enough time to spend there. Our main issue has been health care. So maybe with cobra we can manage. I'll check out the GAMA offering and see if there are any other options out there.

Very sorry to hear that Rob. Capitalism definitely has flaws! I'll bring extra cash Sunday. With no trip to H'Con. more bucks to spend at GHG!

Remember that unemployment payments start from the date you file, not the date you got let go.

A trip to GHG is in order…

Thanks, all, for the support. We'll continue with the insurance via cobra and then figure out things from there.

And don't forget the "secret sauce" of cobra is that you don't actually have to pay into it until you need it…
