Discuss, While Goodfellas argues convincingly that they are all scum, no exception, The Godfather is still the Great American Movie. Michael is a classic Greek Tragic Hero, undone by the best part of his character, which are really flaws. Aristotle would recognize him instantly. Best lines: "What do you mean I'm funny?" "Leave the gun. take the canolis." |

Both great movies. I own Goodfellas but not The Godfather. That "funny" scene is classic. Michael in the restaurant. How do you beat that scene? I say a tie! |

Ooh, tough one. I suppose it's Goodfellas for me. Henry Hill: [narrating] Whenever we needed money, we'd rob the airport. To us, it was better than Citibank. But of course these two are unforgettable: Don Corleone: What's the matter with you? Is this what you've become, a Hollywood finocchio who cries like a woman? "Oh, what do I do? What do I do?" What is that nonsense? Ridiculous! Don Corleone: I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse. Okay? I want you to leave it all to me. Go on, go back to the party. |

I love the God Father from the first minutes with the undertaker through the entirety of the sequel; one of the few examples (along with Rocky II) a sequel doing its predecessor justice. The third unfortunately is more of what you expect from a sequel. Loved the first half of Goodfellas but tire through the second half. Honestly, not a character in there I wouldn't mind seeing capped. Unlike God Father where I actually felt bad for Sonny and Fredo. Don't get me wrong, I own 'em both. But God Father for me hands down. |

Both are great movies, however the Godfather is on a level by itself. I think on most lists the number one movie is Citizen Kane and number two is The Godfather. I think in another 10 or 15 years, The Godfather will be considered the greatest movie ever made. When it comes on, I can sit and watch the whole thing and enjoy every minute, I cannot say that about Citizen Kane. Mike |

The Godfather, but Goodfellas a *very* close second

Godfather is epic; Goodfellas is faster-paced entertainment – with a decent soundtrack. Akin to the "funny" scene is the one with Spider – "What am I a mirage?" – "No, no, I thought you said, I was alright, Spider." And I get the scenes from Goodfellas confused with Casino sometimes. |

Yep, it's gotta be Godfather. Thanks, John |

I rate The Godfather as one of the best American films of all time. Easily top ten, probably top five. Goodfellas might crack the top 500, but probably at 498 or so. |

I was watching "World's Dumbest Criminals" last night and they had a segment on a former mob hitman who went into the witness protection program. His "cover" was blown when he attacked a dissatisfied customer at the restaurant he ran – appropriately (or inappropriately) named, "Gumba's Pizza." They actually had CCTV footage of him jumping over the counter & attacking the customers – as well as the sign of the joint. Not reality, actuality. |

Godfather, a dramatic masterpiece. Goodfellas was very good, but it's more of a documentary. |

Godfather. No question for me. I and II were brilliant. I just blot III out from my memory. Goodfellas is good, but it's no Godfather. |

The Godfather, because on some weird level it's a movie about problems you can relate to. Also, it has great dialog that you can reference to make a point and everyone will understand. i.e. "It's not personal, it's just business." "Going to the mattresses." I love Goodfellas, but they are all so lost and depraved it's like watching a giant NASCAR crash. |

Goodfellas. Best scene: Ray Liotta stalks across the street and pistol whips the preppie douche. Brutal. Then the wife's narration, "I gotta admit, it turned me on." |

Goodfellas. Reminds me of my parents roots in Jersey City. Ray Liotta's opening narration and my mother's description of growing up in Jersey City are disturbingly similar. |

What I'm getting from this is that y'all would like Citizen Kane a whole lot more if the characters had been shooting each other. anyway
I'll take The Godfather. |

Goodfellows is a movie that I could watch over and over again. I can't say the same about Godfather (the book was better). |

Never realy got into the Godfather movie, it's a fine movie, but I found it boring and stilly at times. Goodfellas on the other hand is for me the best mafia/gangster movie ever made |
| OttoMunoz | 23 Sep 2009 5:39 p.m. PST |
I really like the first 2 Godfather movies but thought Goodfellas was over rated and terrible. Partly because of Ray Liotta doing his narration. It got annoying. Otto noizehive.blogspot.com |
