Do hamsters have tails?

link

we don't have hamsters on Australia, and looking at the photo has got me curious.

Now some might find that link disturbing, but that wasn't my intention. I just want to know if its a tail.

Yes, they are little pink nubs.
You can see it below the nose in the picture you linked to.

well that's a relief

It shouldn't be that much of a relief given that you now know the punch line to a really rude joke about the difference between gerbils and hamsters.

That's a rather disturbing picture you found, Mrs. P!

Gerbils got more white meat.

No hamsters in Australia, even as pets? That's a shame, as they're quite cute. Had a few as a kid, before moving up to larger pets like dogs.

The tails are wee stubby ones, but they are very mobile with a range of movement, but th etail itself has no flex in it

Pictors Studio19 Jul 2009 1:22 p.m. PST

Do they have ham?

Jerzei Balowski19 Jul 2009 2:47 p.m. PST

No ham, only sters. No ger, only bils. wink

Nice photo, Jerzei, it looks just like you. Is it new?

bringing hamsters to Australia would be like bringing rabbits…… and you know how THAT turned ouy

Australia already has a ton of native rodents that have been there for 3 million years, so I doubt that feral hamsters would get much of a look in.

We had an urban myth/joke when I was at school, that if you picked up a hamster by its tail, its eyes would fall out.

"Gerbils got more white meat."

What does that have to do with duct tape? grin

"Australia already has a ton of native rodents that have been there for 3 million years, so I doubt that feral hamsters would get much of a look in."

Maybe, but rats, mice and those pesky rabbits found it quite hospitable.

Rabbits ain't rodents!

So have introduced rats and mice been displacing the native Aussie rats and mice? Like the way the brown rat kicked the black rat's behind in Britain?
