Or, dueling "science" shows on TV.
Between Discovery and the History(sic) Channel, there are more theories for mass extinctions than for the Kennedy assassination.

Not to worry, Congress has the problem in hand. It will tax both. grin

Oh, wait!
Now they're blaming methane hydrates…
Someone should notify Congress, STAT!

You still get eaten by the (fill in the blank) in the first 30 minutes of the show…..

Was that mass Kennedy extinctions … I think alcohol may have been a primary cause, but it could Gamma ray bursts …

Methane hydrate is interesting stuff. I've heard the theory that the stuff explains some ship and plane disappearances and it may have been responsible for getting the world out of the last ice age.

Possibly. I know that everyone in the room disappears whenever I release some. But the atmosphere tends to get icy rather than warm up.

I noticed the Science Chanel picking up on the apocolypse act. A few days ago I caught the last half of their own version of When Asteroids Attack.

Methane hydrate? Is that when you're not feeling well and your gas/poop seperator isn't working right?

Farstar29 Jun 2009 2:25 p.m. PST

Its another term for methane clathrate, or methane molecules trapped in the lattice structure of water ice. It forms naturally in several circumstances and is considered a possible energy source, since it stores methane at a high density compared to normal compressed gasses, releasing it as it melts. Taking a hammer to a piece is not recommended…

adub7430 Jun 2009 8:22 a.m. PST

"methane clathrate" oh. I thought it was when you go to toot and you get a little leakage.

Farstar01 Jul 2009 1:36 p.m. PST

The technical term for that would be "mud butt".
