I've been playing Medieval Total War lately. I'm the Moors. I've been rolling along conquering the world but have been unable to take out the Portuguese. At this point in the game they always show up with skirmish cav, heavily armored knights, and Alvumgarves [sp] -- guys with javalins that fight like no tomorrow in a melee. I have been getting my head handed to me. I have managed to kill most of their commanders but other than that I regularly lose in fights of relatively equal numbers. Yeah, I could swamp them by hitting them with 3"1 odds but that would hurt my ego. Any suggestions on how to deal with these unruly Christians? mjc |

ditch the ego at the door. 4 to 1 is "a good start" |

Never played the Moors myself, but a few options are: - Buy mercenaries and launch suicidal attacks, you don't care if they die, they're mercs. Bleed them white then hit the smaller enemy army with your better troops. If you can't get a lot of mercs do the same with cheap troops and don't risk you're good generals. - Artillery of whatever vintage is currently available, causes a huge hit on their morale. Rockets are really cool if you can get them, again, not sure what the Moors have access to. - If you are neutral or friendly to some of Portugal's neighbors, pay them to attack the Portuguese (may not be an option if you're steamrolling the rest of the world). - Send assassins after the family members. - Check the totalwar.org website, lots of good advice from other players for all the factions in the forums there. You didn't say what difficulty level you're playing but if its hard or very hard, forget being nice. If you can get 3-1 or 4-1 odds, go for it. |

Well I got them! Used 4 catapults behind about 10 infantry (dismounted cav -- no endurance but good armor) and a bunch of Desert Cavalry to hold down the flanks. Just took my time making sure everyone stayed fresh, ran them into a corner and blew them away as they dashed themselves against my infantry. Still a rather close run thing as they caved in my left flank and got very close (and yet so far away) from my catapults. Threw all my Desert Cav (no missiles left at that point) at them and killed their King!! I had another army of elite cav types in the wings but never had to use it! Now to deal with their allies -- the evil Scots. May have to take out the English to get at them! mjc

M2:TW is a great game. On the downside, its taken many hours that I might have spent painting miniatures. |
