Maybe it's just me, but I've concluded that the most easiest way to make an honest buck these days is to open either a lawn care service or a pest control business. I seem to see more trucks either towing a trailer loaded with lawnmowers, weedeaters, etc., or puttering around town with a pest control sign plastered on their doors. True or false? |

Not sure about honest buck and pest control
Seems they can't avoid a touch of fear based marekting. Lawn care is a good honest business. I've always wondered if it couldn't be Walmarted though. Why couldn't you buy up the contract for a whole block rather then a bunch of independent contractors driving all over town. Seems to be a wast of time and fuel--the two biggest costs to this buisness. Pass some of the savings on to the customer so you can keep the whole block; maybe lock 'em up in a small contract (sort of a first/last month type of thing). Then pocket the rest of the savings

Lawn care is being "walmarted". I know a couple of people who either own a lawn care franchise or have their own "multi-truck" lawn care business. They give discounts if customers are located next to or on the same block. |

Also a good way to launder drug money. Or so I'm told. |

Instead of lawncare, you should provide a gardening service. Start a greenhouse so you can plant seedlings in the garden as soon as the frost stops and then collect money every two weeks for maintenance. You're maintenance staff can even be little old ladies in compact cars with a small pail of tools and a rake. |

What's this "frost" thing you speak about? Good lawn service folk are in high demand here. We found a good one and now almost everyone on the block uses him. |

Lawn care uses the basic drug dealer/entrapment business model. First they sell you a product, then they sell you the product that you only need because of that first product. Never fell for the whole "lawn" scam, myself. -Kle. |

or puttering around town
" Puttering is a lot cheaper if you do not pay for a franchise. I expect that it is an easy business to get into, does not mean it is an easy one to make a living in. |

Rebellion against the Hegemony of Grass? Unthinkable! Oh, there's some grass out there, too
I just prefer the moss. -Kle. |
