There is a competition being run in Australia to come up with a new flavour of chip/crisp. I think they did one in UK recently didn't they? You win 1% of the sales of your flavour (up to 200000 p.a. max) plus 30000 cash up front. I have been trying to come up with a flavour and I thought of "Peanut" flavoured chips which would work well in pubs I reckon
.plus people with nut allergies could eat 'em. Anyone else got any suggestions? |

I've had some chips using spices from Thai cooking. They were quite good and included a bit of peanut, I think. I very much doubt someone who is allergic to peanuts could eat peanut chips. They grind peanuts to get the flavor. Another flavor of chip I like, but rarely see, are seafood flavored chips. In the US there are a couple of regional companies that make some. I can sometimes get very good shrimp and garlic chips from a Japanese grocer. |

Cajun Squirrel was one of the ones I liked in the competition in the UK. Builders Breakfast walkers.co.uk/flavours won it. My second favourite in those that got as far as being made. A better name than peanut is needed. x42 |

I'd butter flavoured crisps that taste like mashed potatoes with lots of butter on them. Mmmmm buttery, salty goodness. They would be like the popcorn of the potato chip world! |

Tobacco chips! Now theres a thought; a healthy alternative to my only vice. Nothing I like better than lighting up a King Edward Special at the end of a day.. No seafood chips in Oz that i know of so that is one option I must admit. They're a fickle lot over here though. My partner is a cook of the highest order and makes superlative sauerkraut (shes part German) and artery threatening garlic mashed potato with butter all over it. I also thought of pie and sauce flavour; pie floater flavour; yiros flavour and a full fried brekky flavour (but that one had been done in UK already). Unfortunately we don't have squirrel over here so I wonder about Cajun possum
..:) |

There was a promotion here in New zealand recently where people were asked to nominate some iconic Kiwi flavours for a range of chippies. They have now actually come out with 'tomato sauce and mince pie', 'reduced cream and onion soup' and 'tasty cheese' flavoured chips. link |

The Cajun squirrel & builders breakfast were the least worst of those in the Walkers competition. If they had said the squirrel was chicken I wouldn't have argued. The duck with Hoisin sauce was vile. |

Years ago, I told my wife of the tomato ice-cream found in Japan. She refused to believe me, then recently some friends, returned from a visit to Japan, mentioned the tomato ice-cream, and how terrible it was
And there *are* tomato-flavored chips/crisps for sale in our local Trader Joe's

They did 'hedgehog' flavour crisps in Britain a few years ago – sort of generic road kill idea. |

Sounds like the "Burger King" potato chips (crisps) we have had here. They're supposed to emulate the flavor of BK's French Fries with Ketchupo. They do a poor job of it. |

Someone already does a 'Spicy Tomato'- might be a maize based snack though. The 'Duck' was odd. You could eat one, know exactly what they were trying to do, but always with the comment, "
but I would send it back." Vegemite- yerch, I hate Marmite- though there are Marmite flavoured crisps. My eldest loves it, and if I do him Marmite on toast it is always done at arms length. And then I forget and do that parent thing of licking the knife- Archh! The builders breakfast was actually alright, because they didn't mix the flavours on the same crisp. One would be egg, the next, sausage. Sweet Chili is nice- suggest that if they don't do it in Oz. Or go for penut BUTTER. |
