Free Realms is Sony's entry into the f2p (free-to-play) MMO market. It's aimed at kids, but might be worth a look for those of you into casual gaming. They've broken from the MMORPG pack. Yes, you have a character. Yes, it's WASD movement. Yes, there are classes and levels. That's where it ends though.
You can be every class at the same time and level them individually. Some of the classes involve playing mini-games. All of the mobs are instanced and none of them aggro unless you enter their instance.
The crazy classes include, Demo Derby Driver, Ninja, Card Duelist, Blacksmith, etc. It's weird. The card game is quite good. If you have kids that have become frustrated with load times, etc. on FusionFall, this one might be worth a look.
The only thing I've ran into that hurts the game is the creep filter is insane. You can't say numbers in chat. Presumably so you can't tell someone how old you are. The problem is this: it filters things that aren't numbers. For instance, I saw someone type this:
How does it work?
It came out like this:
How does i####rk?
12 would result in: ##
I'll have to resort to Roman numerals to conduct trade negotiations. Good thing my family moved me to Louisiana in time to learn about that topic.
