Well, I completed my first 90 days on the Nutrisystem diet and I am pleased with the results so far. I have lost 30 pounds, my blood pressure is much improved as is my fasting blood sugar tests (most mornings its high-normal now instead of 200+).

Now don't take this as a sweeping endorsement. NS works well for me because it fits my lifestyle quite nicely and is targeted to my biggest problem with food, portion control.

I'll be taking a new A1C test at the end of the month and am hopeful that my numbers will be much improved (I was at 10.2 on my last A1C just before I started NS – which is very bad. I am hoping to get under 6 on this next test)

Sounds like you are on the right track! Keep it up!

That's amazing. I tried it for a month and had a lot of trouble staying the course due to family and work meals. I did manage to lose 10 pounds. I've got another 8 to go.

Wow, maybe I should give that a try…

Congratulations on your efforts. I hope you're able to translate NS meals into less expensive home cooked ones and keep the weight off.

My Dad got me started on NS, but he quit it after 2 months. I can see where it could be hard for someone with a family since they are going to be eating something else and the temptation levels would be much higher to stray. I am living the life of the born-again bachelor so I don't have to be exposed to loved ones enjoying home-cooked meals while I eat my little box of NS chow.

Thats going to be a hard transition because I am an IT professional and had a long standing habit of eating out virtually every meal. Because of this, I am actually SAVING a lot of money using NS because while its more expensive than home-cooked, its way cheaper than eating out. evil grin

Congrats Dave. We're trying Atkins. Peggy has lost a fair amount of weight while I've lost a little. My BS, physical not verbal, level seems to be positively impacted but the effort being put into it by the BW is driving me nuts. Why don't you drop by GHG so we can admire the New You next Sunday? Everybody's been missing you, especially all the Hot Gamer Chicks.

Sundays are still troublesome for me schedule-wise, but I will be at GHG on Thursday night for the Nappy playtest. Aren't you playtesting the Ren rules? Mayhaps we can cross swords on a Thursday if you can make the commute.

Congratulations, Dave! Don't forget your cholesterol count, too.

Keep up the great work! thumbs up

My cholesteral has always been good. I've eaten healthy foods for years (just ask Shagnasty about my stance on sugary foods). My problem has always been snacking and over-eating. Believe it or not you can get fat on a very healthy diet if you consistantly over-endulge.

I know that refined white sugar isn't a very good thing, and I should get off it since I have a history of diabetes in my family. What's your opinion on stevia, Dave? Thanks.

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP01 Jun 2009 4:35 p.m. PST

Good stuff but hard to find. It is also VERY sweet.

Shag, I've found stevia at GNC Vitamin Centers.

DontFearDareaper Fezian01 Jun 2009 8:36 p.m. PST

My doctor okayed Stevia, Supra, and nutrasweet as preferable to the real white death (sugar). Happily I lost my sweet-tooth a long time ago (it DOES happen if you give it enough time), so even sugar free sweets don't appeal to me much.

I hate to be the drag on your efforts, but 30 pounds in 90 days is way to much. It's extremely hard on your liver and kidneys and several complications may develop in the long term. 1/8 of your total body wheight can be lost in a single year without too much risk.

I know that this system seems to be working now, and I do admit that it does have it's merits, but without an extensive exercise program that builds muscle, it can be extremely dangerous years down the road. It can actually shorten your life.

I strongly suggest that you curb your wheight loss and concentrate on building muscle, and hunker down on the fact that your body will go into starvation mode where your body burns less calories and you are always extremely tired.

I hate to say it but family / spouse are almost as important as the diet.

When the kids were home I was able to do this kind of thing. When they moved out, my wife would get all upset with me because she would cook this fabulous food and no one would eat it.

With her its a kind of validation. She gets to provide something to the 'family' and when you don't eat her food, you are diminishing the value of her contributions to the relationship.

I need to lose some weight -- I also need to find a way to convince my wife that she should support me. Until then, . . .
