See the previous Family Rant for reference.

So Larry has reverted right back to ass-mode.

He had escorts over at least once last week, maybe twice. Evidence they were there is not quite overwhelming, but no other explanation for the unidentified water bottles left around, phone book left open at the "Escort" section, his bedding inexplicably in the wash (he has NEVER washed his own stuff in the 18 months since we moved him.) Spent/had stolen over $1,000 last week, now he's got no o/h cash.

My Mom was laid off Friday; and Larry's response was, "Well, let's see how you pay the rent now that you're unemployed."

My Mom went down to the bank where they had established a joint account waaay back when he first moved down here (she had never touched it or even checked the balance previously), sure enough, he had cleaned out the whole account previous to his sudden trip. The accoutn where he gets his pension deposited to is still active, but that is a single account (by pension rules); HE is the only one that can draw from it.

They called ANOTHER truce (which seem to last only as long as Larry wants them too), and then he goes and writes her a rubber check on the cleared checking account for his portion of the rent. My Mom talked to him, and he recalls the withdraw before heading up to San Jose, but does not even remember closing the account.

Saturday, after discussion with the PD, she finds out from them the only "legal options" thing she can do is start eviction proceedings (lengthy and drawn out.)

Monday (tomorrow) they both agreed to go to the bank to withdraw cash for the rent, and to see a Social Worker about caring for him after September (or maybe sooner.) Truthfully, that is only if he remembers he agreed, or has not changed his mind since sunrise…

On a good note, after my Mom went to bed last night still in a high-stress mode, Larry did knock on her door this morning to check on her because he did not hear her starting her normal routine at the time she normally awakes. So that is something – not much, but something.

Can you get him arrested on procurement charges? Then he would be the police department's problem for a while and you'd have a better case for evicting him.

Do what Willie Nelsons wife did. Wait for him to pass out the sew him to the bed then whack him awake with a baseball bat. I love that story.

I'd start eviction proceedings immediately. No reason to support such a tool family or not.

OK, so Monday comes and Larry is up and dressed earlier than normal, and on the phone as my Mom gets up for the day. He seems in depth with the phone conversation and my Mom overhears him talking about someone picking him up, a hot tub, etc.

She asked him what was going on, and he launches into how he will be moving out and living with "his friend" (the escort), but that eventually he's going to move right back to San Jose again. So he's forgotten or reneged on going to the bank to help pay for rent, and has not even started the preliminaries of packing… so, OK…

He spent from about 8AM to noon on the porch waiting for someone who never showed. Instead of getting into it about rent, my Mom remotely disabled the wireless phone he had in his bathrobe pocket, and eventually (with him knowing) called the police and a state social worker to see what can do to protect him from being taken advantage of by whomever this escort is.

Both the police and the social worker talked to him as well.

Needless to say, both told my Mom she is powerless, that he has not been declared incompetent so she MUST reactivate the phone and he has to have the freedom to come and go, to hang himself out to dry, that she is liable if she inhibits him, because he is still considered legally a freely consenting adult.

The social worker informed my Mom that everything he is doing is atypical for a stage 2 or moderate level Alzheimers case, and per their policies, they will stop by sometime in the next 10 days for a surprise visit and evaluation, but she is to stay out of his way until then, and recommended she hits a local AlAnon meeting for support.

Both the social worker and the police talked to Larry on the phone also. My Mom said the back and forth with the police was a needed spot of humor for her; Larry worked and retired as a state union employee within the corrections system, his job was power of attorney and affairs settling on behalf of inmates at both metal institutes and prisons, and he laid into the cops, "I know how corrupt you all are, I've worked with cops for decades, you don't have my best interests in mind. She keeps trying to choose who my friends can be, you and her don't know what is best for me, and only care about yourselves and what you can get away with," etc., etc.

I went online to check through the different websites, and sure enough, all this time we thought he was *beginning* to have the signs of dementia when in fact he is a full-on intermediate Alzheimers case, showing some signs of advanced stages already.

So now I guess we wait for the state social worker to drop by, hope it is on a day that he has not taken off for whatever / wherever, and declare him incompetent. Then I guess we have to work in spite of his wishes to ensure he is not taken advantage of by, "the system," and those who work in, "the system."

We also registered my Mom for unemployment, and between my sister and I, started canvassing the area online for roommates/place to live, as without a job there is no way she can afford to stay where she is at alone when the lease is up in September.

To address others:

Jana, police said nothing they can do regarding prostitutes unless either or both parties admitted they paid/were paid, solicitation is illegal, there is no recourse for procurement through an "escort service."

I realize the physical abuse suggestions are meant to take an edge off the tension and be humorous, but nah, not gonna do it…

Eviction procedings without felonious cause would take about two months or more if there were no delays and he decided to fight it (anyone recall the movie, "Pacific Heights?"), whereas incompetence he can be out in a couple weeks.
